I was wondering how many clean their filter socks (how they are cleanedm not if you clean them). I put mine in the washing machine with hot water without detergent (or any other additiives), then air dry them. It would be nice and more ecologically-friendly if I could include the soclks with the regular wash, instead of washing one or two filter socks bu themselves. I wonder if any of the detergent would remain on the socks?

Thanks for reading and your advice:)

I take mine outside, turn them inside out, and use the jet nozzle of the hose to rinse them out. Let them air dry and use them again. During the winter when I have to turn the outside hose off, I put them in a bucket of bleach water, let them soak overnight, rinse them well, let dry and reuse.

+1 to the above. Additionally I let them air dry for a day and then rinse in Prime just to be doubly sure

I wash mine using detergent and bleach but also use an extra rinse cycle on them. They come out nice and clean.

I also turn them inside out before they go in the washing machine.

Sometimes I will run them through the washer a second time with bleach if I happen to notice that the water during the rinse cycle has a tint of green.

I also air dry them at least overnight before using them again.

Yes, thanks. I have been too scared to place mine in the washing machine. Will try it going forward.

I think this is perfect.

I've noticed, and dont knock it until you try it, but they clog less quickly if you never allow them to dry out, just put them in a plastic bag straight out of the washer.

It's like the fibers shrink up when they are allowed to dry out and don't filter as well. You don't have to worry about the damp filter socks growing bacteria as the bleach you washed them in killed most all of it. When ready to use, just take the damp filter sock out of the plastic bag, rinse in old tank water (I guess tap would be ok too) and use....

They clog far less frequently this way, do a better job, and last longer
