So I got up this morning and found my 2 yr old clownfish on top of my mesh top! I don't know how long he was there, but he was not breathing and stiff. I thought I would give it a shot and try and revive him. I held him in my hand in front of a powerhead and about 10 min later I saw his fin move and he slowly started breathing! After 15 min, his breathing became more labored and he started trying to swim out of my hand. He was very disoriented and was bumping into the rock work and did get hung on the overflow. After another 20 min he is swimming without bumping or getting stuck on the overflow and his breathing is less rapid. I am thinking I will keep the flow somewhat calm today and lights very low (have led). Any other suggestions as to saving this clown?

FYI:

This clown has jumped before in another tank and made it through a tank crash (only survivor from the whole system). The pic was after I placed him back in tank 30 min later.

I had a similar situation several years ago. Found mine on the floor and he was crusty. I could have sworn that he was dead, but he moved just a little so I threw him back in the water really quick. He spent a while just laying in the rocks but eventually started swimming around and made a full recovery! I was pretty amazed!

So what you are saying is I may have a fish or two swimming around in my septic tank????? LOL

Seriously, that is amazing.

Wow! That's incredible! Wish I had tried that for my fish that have gone carpet surfing in the past...

You should name him after that character in the bible.... Lazarus..... They both were raised from the dead..........

OK off subject but....Speaking of Lazarus, if you have never read it, you should read the book "Johnny get your gun". It was written in WWI and was an anti war book but Lazarus plays a big role in it. One of the most disturbing yet provactive books I have ever read. It is a short read but you will find yourself imagining being the person featured in the book and it will scare the bejeezus out of you.

I will have to look up the book. My wife and I talked about it over dinner and we know he was definitely out of the water for an hour (she got up at 7:30 and I got up at 8:30). When I found him his slime coat looked like dried up mucus. Wonder how much longer he was out of the water? He did eat well tonight and seems to be fine. Guess he does deserve a name change after that :)
