My male and sometimes female will do head stands and pick at the sand. I did some research about it and couldn't find anything really. Wondering if anybody has experienced this behavior.

What LSU said. Typically they clean off a rock or other hard surface if they are serious though.

Do they ever 'fan' the sand? That is a typical female behavior. I wouldn't be worried about it, clownfishes frequently do weird things. If it's a patterned behavior, it likely isn't anything bad.

I figured they might be cleaning a spot but just odd for its location. She fans the sand and he does head stands. Just chalk it up as odd behavior.

You could try moving the sand from that spot, down to the bare glass, and see what happens :) Maybe if it's pre-cleaned, they'll get down to business.

Fanning is the preamble. When they start scraping a surface with their teeth, breeding is imminent. At least from what I've seen.
