Does anyone have James Cook's cell number? I lost it when I changed phones. I noticed about 3 night ago my black and white clowns laid some eggs on a rock and I know they will get eaten if I don't take the rock out but I don't know where they are at in their life cycle. I borrowed a book from Pure reef and have everything to take care of them with but unsure as to when they will hatch. Jenn if you are on here can you give me any advice? I tried to attach picture, I hope it comes through.

Thanks,

Buffie Cole

Have you tried to PM James?

P.S. There is some good information in the Breeder's Corner here at ARC. You may want to PM bobz also; he also breed fish at one time.

If you have a Kindle? Amazon has a book for Kindles for $8.99 Clownfishes-Joyce-D-Wilkerson-

Merkywater breeds clownfish to. Most likely if you don't get the eggs out or you don't collect the fry, the clowns will probaly lay eggs again.

Your correct, the clowns will lay eyes again. I posted links in my reply above. I believe one of the links may mention the time when clowns will lay eggs again after the first batch.

In short you will need a larvae catcher, or some way to siphon them out. Next you'll need something to raise them in (10 gallon tank with air stone and heater). Next a large supply of rotifers and phyto to feed the rotifers. If you don't have the rotifers they want survive, they are the first source of food then freshly hatched baby brine shrimp.....If you dont have any thing ready yet the will more than likely lay again. They usually lay every 12 days on avg and hatch eight days post lay. Hope that helps.

what he said, but also a great source for detailed info go to
a> Believe me raising can be rewarding but what a pain. You have to raise food (phyto) to feed food (rotifers) to feed baby clownfish. Phyto and rotifers need sterile water, Clownfish need multiple feedings a day and lots of water changes.

Thanks for the help guys. Tried to PM James, her never answered. Got everything going. I think they have 2 more days. Just can't seem to let them get eaten. Umm, sterile water?? I got a brand new bucket, does that count? Mixed new water for the rotifers in its new bucket.

I got a new 5.5 g, adjustable air hoses, 3 watt light, wrap the sides of the tank, tank set to 81 and use water from parents tank the night I grab them out before they hatch, rotifers going as of this morning, heater for tank (air stone under heater), golden pearls for day 5-14 then cyclops-eeze. Anything else?

Everything sounds good. I think it would be better to let them hatch because it seems whenever you take that eggs out they end up getting fungus or just don't hatch. How many fish do you have in the tank with them?

Here is a great link that described the cultivation for the rotifers in case you did not see it..

I used the nano 3600 to feed the rotifers...much easier than growing phyto.

last thing, you will need a sieve for collecting the rotifers

Hope that helps! and good luck.

JC I have 4 tangs and 2 hungry orange fish (can't remember name but they have voracious appetites) plus my 2 clowns. I think if I take them out once lights are out the night of the hatch and put bubbles under them they should be ok, right? Can they get a fungus in a couple of hours?

bobz thanks!

you should be fine pulling out the rock the night of the hatch.
