Does anyone know what Comcast port I can use for my APEX email? Apparently port 25 is blocked. Tried 587 and 465.

Thanks

Port 25 shouldn't be blocked. That's the port SMTP uses - email basically. I have Comcast and I wouldn't be able to send email if it was blocked.

The others could</em> be blocked but I'd be surprised if Comcast blocks any ports.

I changed ISPs from AT&T to Comcast and my Apex email stopped working. In searching on the Internet is see repeatedly where Comcast blocks port 25 as a spam prevention.

Now, I am not saying everything on the Internet is true... we all know otherwise. However, I would like to see what other Apex users, with Comcast, are using for their email set up.

I just checked my mail settings and it is using SMTP to an outside mail server as I have my own domain. In thinking this through, it maybe that in your area Comcast is blocking smtp to outside servers while not in my area. I know my work does that.

My first step would be call up Comcast. And unless you get really lucky and get someone good right off the bat, you'll have to convince them to pass you on to second tier support.

The other option would be reconfigure the unit to use Comcast's SMTP server.

You will need to relay your outbound mail through the Comcast SMTP server. It is probably mail.comcast.net or smtp.comcast.net. Common practice to combat spam.

Jonathan is correct. Almost all ISP's make you auth through their mail servers unless you have a business account. We would even make some smb's use our servers because their mail servers would get hacked every week. You gotta love microsaft products for web use. ;)

If in fact comcast is blocking port 25, then I agree with this. You'll need to point your outbound mail to an smtp relay server out there somewhere. It doesn't have to be comcast's, it can be anybody who provides smtp relay services.

Be warned that if you use an open relay your e-mails will probably have a high percentage of failure. Open relays get blacklisted and most ISP's won't accept e-mail from those on the list. Sad but true, gone are the days of an open internet.

Thanks for the comments. I signed up for a GMX email account. I have set the Apex to use that account and all is working now.

Hum, I work for one of the companies mentioned and I support and setup some large events around the world every year. I use our own DIA Internet Service which doesn't support and allow port 25. I'm forced to use one of the FREE services for SNMP alerts sent smtp to my blackberry and I've never missed and event message using the relay service It maybe selected one's that do blacklist. Specially people using bulk mail or spam.
