This seems like aiptasia. It is growing on the back wall of the refugium and its base is clear with a white thread running in the middle and the top is brown. I had some aiptasia before but it looked different and was on the rocks. I have another but all white and smaller in the DT. I'm wondering if I need to nuke them or not.

Thanks,
Angela

Cant' tell from pic but I'd nuke to be sure. Or just scrape them off and suck them out.

I wouldn't be to apt to scrape it and risk breaking off pieces that would make new ones.

Take a small airline hose. Start a siphon and suck it into the hose, then pinch the end of the hose to grab the nem and pull it off. As parts of the nem will be sucked out.

I was lucky with the one on the fuge. I took a chisel and scooted it down the glass just a little bit then took a turkey baster and sucked it off the wall. I was not as lucky with the one on the rock. I had been taking the rocks out and rubbing salt on them. This rock was a lot bigger so I thought I would chisel the aiptasia off the rock and throw it away. I chiseled it off and have no idea where the chip went.

I've been reading http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36190&highlight=napalm">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36190&highlight=napalm</a>.

I think I am going to get some Rooto to have handy for next time.

i use aptasia x and it works great...peppermint shrimp handled it til the emerald crab killed it

Attacking the aptaisia can send it into survival mode where it sends out gametes and can sprout babies...

The best success I have had has been with Peppermint shrimp. It took three sets before I got one that survived long enough and started eating the aptaisia, but once they start, they keep that stuff under control!

Unfortunateky, your tank has herpes... but it's not hopeless by any means.
