I've seen some LED strip lights and was about to drop coin when I had a conversation with someone more experienced with their use. Who shied me away from brand and model vs application.
Started doing more research, and now more confused than I was at first glance.
I would expect LED's to replace MH/ fluorescent but cannot find any charts/graphs depicting how many of what watt/color will be sufficient.
Obviously the strip lights are great for Fish, and some softies. I have 2- 250W MH's with 20k lamps, and 2- 96w CF Actincs over my display.
> rambling
Presently it's a mess, after several huge losses of coral for various reasons, it's been basically a FOWLR with whatever survived for the past 2 years.
Honestly I quit caring about the tank, and let the wife have 'her babies' while I made and toted water for changes. I yanked the MH fixture off and tossed a PC fixture on.
Noticing the drop in power consumption from removing the MH's, and the reduction of makeup water and heat makes keeping the MH's off appealing.
I am now faced with a couple options; going all LED (within a reasonable budget) supplementing LED's with a period of MH lighting, or a combo of CF, MH and LED's.
> /rambling
I seen a lot of back and forth on what LED's can do, and can't do. I've read a LOT of marketing literature, and not enough real feedback to be able to determine what may fit/suit me.
My display is a 48x18x24 RR 90, and I dunno where I'll end up with regard to livestock, but I would like the option to have SPS.
If you have an opinion, please offer it. I'm in a position to make a direction choice, but am overwhelmed with marketing advertisements to trust my own opinion.
