How do you set your tank up for copods? I have the fuge with some Cheato and a 100w 6500K cfl on it from 11pm to 9am. I currently have a 25micron filter and a sponge on the return pump. I would assume that this would not allow the pods to move thru the system. should I remove these? Also my PS is HOB of the DT for the moment.

I don't run filters on my returns Im shure pods could git through the sponge but not a micron bag

Yeah take off the filter. It will just clog up. I culture pods in a gallon jug with just a little aeration. They don't need much. You should see them soon, if not you may want to get some macros from an established tank.

The whole feeding concept is to take care of your pod population. Leave one wall of your tank untouched/ unscraped. Restock Cheato, restock pods now & then, supplement LIVE phyto, have a pile of of rocks/shells in a low flow corner. Change out some live rock now and then.

Macro Algae such as Codium, Halimeda, etc...

get rid of your bristle worms and 6-line wrasses and other copepod predators.

We want another fish that is real colorful and the spotted mandarin LQQKs great for this. Might get something this weekend don’t remember the name it was front half purple/lavender and the back was yellow. Should I put the 200micron back on? So what your saying is remove the filter soc completely and leave the sponge on the mag 7? </span></span>

That chato probably already has pods in it. Spinkle some flake food onto the chaeto then turn off the lights. Turn them back on in about 20-30 minutes. You will probably be amazed what you see scurrying around there.

FWIW- I feed my pods 2-3 times per week. There are swarms of them (using the light trick above).

Leave the filter sock. Get rid of the return sponge. My Refugium is to scary to look at when the lights are out. Gives me the willies with all the creepy crawlies. Let that cheato work a couple weeks you will start to see pods.
