coral are dieing and don't know why!!

At very least cut n half your doseing. If it was a gradual increase that got to b an overdose then u where only off by a little bit each time. I only dose a trace element 1 time a month but not enough for a whole tank. Just enough for the water I'm changing.

Just got my media reactor in and got it up and running. I hope this will help out a little. I also just checked my calcium after bumping it up a little the other day and now I'm standing around 450 - 460, I'm happy with that and now I just have to set my calcium reactor to keep my levels there.

After receiving my bio-pellets. I notice that I had 2 boxes of de*nitrate laying around. It claims to remove nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and organics from my water. Has anyone use this before? Do you think I should remove my bio-pellets and run the de*nitrate instead?

Thanks,

Hoang

I just re-tested my water after my bi-weekly water change I did during the weekend. All test are done with my Nurtrafin test kit.

Nitrite-0
Nitrate-5
Magnesium-1250
pH-8.21 ( Read with pinpoint pH monitor)
Ammonia- under .6 (really hard to read. Its not at .6 but its very light yellow)
Phosphate- 0

From the looks of that I think my water isn't all too bad right? But I'm still getting coral death. I just lost another SPS that I've had for about 3 months now. I notice it was turning white and BOOM over night the whole thing went! I'm really starting to get stressed out and thinking about just not doing SPS anymore. What could be killing my SPS? I mean I have a blue, red and purple hornet that I got about 2 months ago and they are splitting left and right and are looking really good. I also have some xienia (please correct my spelling) and a bunch of other soft coral that are doing fine. At this point I'm thinking that I don't have enough lighting. I run 2 150w MH along with 2 96w PC and 3 blue ecoxotic panorama LED's. MH are on 6 hours a day.

get yourself a good test kit like Elos or Salifert

sps:

Alk~ 7-11
Calcium~ 450 or so
nitrates less than 1.0
phosphate <.028 (you need a kit that measures the low range)

no ammonia, ever.....it's probably your crappy kit though.....

the last time i had a ajor tank malfunction i thought it was my ammonia and nitrates too but it turned out to be that a big piece of cheato ha d broken off and plugged up my return pump...thus halving the flow to my tank..make sure u dont have anything plugged up and the flow is good

I don't think flow is the problem for me since I have 4 power heads in my display to move water around really well. Although I did have a piece of cheato break off and did plug up my return at one point but I caught it when it happened and removed it right away. But I'll check again tonight to make sure that nothing is really there. Thanks for the heads up.

I agree with you and mysterybox. I think sometimes my test kit isn't too good either. What test kit do you guys use? I might go out this weekend and get a new test kit once I find out which is best. I use seachem for my magnesium though so I think I'm ok there right?

2 cents!!!! All I hear is ahhhhh I'm melting if your salinity is off. Iv found out over the years 75% of all ick, fungal, and coral die off is from things like low salinity or poor water. Also all lfs but 1 I've been to before have giving out low salt content water. N let's face it adding more salt costs them more money. So my question is where do u get your water?

I mix my only water 12 hours before I do my WC and I put a heater and power head in there to warm up the water and to mix it very well before I proceed with my WC. My salinity is always at 2.025 (ALWAYS!!) :) I can stand by that because I use a JBJ ATO to keep my water levels even at all times. Only difference will be about 2 cups of water between top offs and thats nothing when its a 120g display with 30 sump right?

RaisedOnNintendo;588372 wrote: Ahh again where do u get your water from? The faucet? Maby the store?

I filter my own water with a 250 gpd ro/di unit that has filtered under 1k gallon of water so far which I got new. I've even tested my filter water and it looks good. don't know what else I can do.

let's hope for a typo, at 2.025 your tank would be a graveyard...

1.025. If your fish are still swimming that's good. :)

I really appreciate you guys trying to help so no worries about being critical. It's really my fault for not giving you guys good numbers.

Kinnda helps but to be accurate I need several water tests in a single day one morning one noon Nd one night.
