Coral Life Skimmer Question

I bought one of these 3 years ago when setting up my FO tank. I never installed it and still do not have it installed (and yes, I know there are better ones out there...but I am just a dumb, cheap yankee from Queens,NY :)). Does anyone know if the fine bubble eliminator/diffusor has to be used? Apparently, it is placed on th skimmer return (to the tank or sump) plumbing to prevent fine bubbles from entering entering the display tank. This will be a sump installation and my sump is rather small, so I was hoping not to need it or cover the return with 100micron material to achieve the same.

Thoughts? Experience? Wild guesses!?

I've had a few of them over the years. I never used the trap when they were in a sump but the sumps themselves always had a trap.

I run one (works good)and just put a peice of foam in the cup to prevent noise. Foam around the return inlet would work well in preventing bubbles.

Thank you. Maybe tomorrow if I feel like getting soak and wet, I will install. Have a great weekend!

I have one baffle that is affixed to the top; so the opening is in the botton. Shoudl I have the skimmer returm water run back to to same section or to the other section housing my return pump to my DT?

Hi Tony - I use the same skimmer. It's pretty good for the price. I don't use the bubble eliminator since it goes through baffles in my sump. I did, however, put a piece of foam on the output to try to cut down on the noise.

Best regards,
Kevin

Ok. I connected it. No bubbles, Any one else have this experience? Did all of the trouble shooting; even push extra air through the venturi. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I am assuming you mean the return pump for the DT. Nope. No bubbles with or without the primary return pump connected. I just reconnected all of the skimmer plumbing and airline. Nothing. I will email Coral Life on Monday. Thanks though!

I blew several timed to the point nearly fainting. I also attached an air pump to the cyclindrical air suction/intake (I guess that is used for adding ozone). I must have installed over a dozen skimmers and buiilt several. I don't get it.

Thank you!

When I got mine I had the same problem. It was with the air silencer. the thing wasn't drilled all the way through where you attach the hose so it couldn't pull air. When I disconnected the silencer it worked. I just had to drill out the two little posts and it worked well with the silencer. Check the air silencer though and see if it can get air through it.

I used to let the air inlet on the return plug up w/ salt. Would reduce the microbubbles. I used it in my sump so I didn't have to deal with bubbles. When I had it as a HOB I did everything I could, including a filter sock to control the bubbles. That trap was the first thing to go.

I also think I may have it sitting to low in the sump(?). I just removed the slilencer...still no bubbles. Do you guys/gals have to change the elevation of the skimmer?

Yep....sitting to low in the sump. Unfortunatley, I can understand income tax law more easily than the 6 words of instructions detailing the appropraite elevation of the skimmer - it even came with a fool-proof picture. I guess I fall somewhere among the moron, idiot and imbecile range. Well, I can only move up from there! LOL

Thanks for all your help!
