Crazy Damsels

+1... well said.

Do you realize how much I really want to do this????

Yeah... I saw someone save a loose copepod that popped out of a coral being fragged. Talk about every life matters, and those are bugs.

I dried out a piece of live rock to kill off a colony of majanos. I feel somewhat bad killing even those but, I felt even worse when I came back to get it and saw several brittle stars dried up like they were flailing for dear life.

Next time I do that, I'll suspend the rock on a rack over some SW so the little crawlers can drop into it.

I've found rogue inverts survive in the sand of a drained tank that had been exposed to near freezing temps for several days. Sadly, they cannot endure the dryness.

U evidently have never stressed over a pest in your tank? Seeing hundreds of dollars in fish and coral getting destroyed can be very hazarous to your health. Everyone here is giving him grief about something he did to make his tank better... So he can relax and enjoy it. I mean some of you guys have nice leather furniture, clothing, etc.

haha... I wonder if the OP has run for the hills yet?

Clearly was mis-informed... but thats what this place is for...

give the guy a break good god..... one reason alot of new people dont come to this site....

The state of GA has a whopping 4, Rattle, Copperhead, Cottonmouth and Coral. Of which only 2 (Rattle and Copperhead) have Alpharetta as a solidly proven range.

In this hobby it is well documented that for every fish that makes it to an aquarium there are untold numbers that die on the reef or in transit, then there are the losses at the aquarists hands. All to what end? So we can torture the strong ones by placing them in little glass boxes for our own enjoyment? It just seems like a newb with 4 posts would be better served through education and guidance then condemnation. The hobby has come a long way but can you really call it humane at its best?

good post

I would venture to say that most who posted in this thread in condemnation of this person did not quarantine one fish before placing it in their tank, putting every fish in there at risk of a disease or parasite if not death . At least this person did it out of not knowing better not out of negligence.

Edit:
Amici;630768 wrote: All of those can pose a risk to our health. Flies carry diseases as do roaches and mice, many spiders can make you extremely sick if they bite you and many many snakes (especially in my area) are venomous. I don't kill something that isn't a risk to my health.

What risk do damsels (which are a pet species) pose? The others you mentioned, unless domesticated, can be considered nouscence species.

 who determined this.

Not knowing better? Who doesnt know that its wrong to flush a living fish down the toilet? Not QTing a fish is completely different from this.

The OP hasn't run for the hills yet! Im still here. I agree with the guy that said I did it to make my tank better. Last thing I need to worry about at this point is fish nipping at one another, me thinking there is something else like water chem killing my tank off.

I wouldn't just kill an animal for the sake of killing it. I did it for peace of mind. Sure I would have returned the thing if the store was open at 8 when I was doing it, but they weren't. Sooo... not to many options unless I float them in a bag and kill'em slowly.

Sometimes crappy things have to be done for peace of mind. There are plenty of things we all do everyday, that while it might be the best choice, its a choice we make.

On a happier note, my new fish are happy, eating, and swimming. Water chemistry seems to be good, and the tank is maturing slowly. Still haven't got the skimmer down just right, but working on that. Next project is auto-top off and RO/DI units!! Wonder if anyone will get mad this time at me wasting water?!?!?

glad to hear it's working out well :)
as for other creepies.. yikes, i lived in australia for most of my life, and snakes are my biggest peeve! crazy sob's they are, especially tigers...
my friends thought it hilarious to watch me standing dead still in the middle of a field near a runner snake (i dunno if that's the proper name) and freaking out when people came to touch it.. lol

fwiw in future, can you jump online and give all us old bleeding hearts a chance to make your fish disappear for ya? even at 8pm, i will go on a (somewhat local) mercy mission :D

Edit: btw Thanh, i will totally do it if you will lol

I can't believe that I am even responding to that but here it is. More is wrong with this scenario than just the flushing. I was referring to the practice of using live fish to cycle a tank. I don't codone the act of flushing any live animal down the toilet . As you mature you will probably be able to discern more than just the emotional portion of a situation or event.

I disagree ,both the cycling with live fish and not quarantining is negligent and irresponsible.

Completely agree with that one, not something I want to do again.
