Cyano Problem

Also wHat color is the bacteria?? That has a ton to do with what it's feeding on kinnda Like a flamingo. Also if your lights are 10k florecent those are the worst producers of mid yellow and green cyno don't use 435nm and 675nm. ID use a 6500k bulb n a lot of atinic support.also it is a bac so can you lower you water temp. Increase the disolved oxygen n your water. That will help from nitrogen from being broken down n2 useful amonia. Also Mexican dwarf hermit crab. (clibunurius digueti) loves cyano throw a couple n there watch them eat it of that rock. But again buy a uv filter it will physically damage the cells

Yeah Dave, I agree about the issue of coming back and fading away..

My story was just 2 times it was horrible.. Seems like every tank I have has the same story.. Cyano will spring up in 1 or 2 spots for a few then dies back, only to come back a few weeks later..

Yep don't u hate that. Get some Mexican dwarf hermits. U may never have it again if it that mild

It doesn't bother me that much.. Half the time I don't even see it except at the very bottom of the glass..

I have used Chemi-clean and it does the job. Protein skimmer goes nuts for a week or so afterwards. I juse don;t like the large WC that comes after doing it. Lotsa work on a 400 gallon system volume

I have never seen a red leg hermit crab eat cyano. They have been in all my tanks with cyano and never ate any of it. I'm not saying Nintendo hasn't seen it, but it has never happened for me.

Also I have had this neon green algae that has a almost styroam or songw texture very cool color. But don't know if it bad or good the blue n red leg hermys eat at it so it never grown past a tiny spot. Any Idea of what it may b?

I think you would use the "Manage Attachments" option under the reply box to post a video file. That is what I use to post pictures. Alternately, I assume you could post a link to it if the vid were posted on another site.

I did a water change yesterday and got rid of most of it. Tank looks a lot better and today still looks pretty clean... keeping my fingers crossed

for what it's worth, my tank has been running for 3 & 1/2 months now and about 5 weeks ago I started seeing the red cyno. It got pretty bad and covered most of the rock and sand, but most of it would go away every night. After a few weeks I tried a two day blackout, which was only a temporary fix. I change my water regularly (10% every 4-5 days), but that didn't seem to help much. then last week it started to disappear and now it's completely gone. there is a lot more coralline algae growing, so I'm guessing that it is now out competing the cyno for some of the same nutrients. so maybe it's just part of the cycle that some tanks go through.
