cyano suckfest

I work off Wade Green and could pick it up from you during lunch or after work. I have a small problem with cyno, but not enough to justify paying 20 bucks for it locally.

My problem stems from the 16 hour photo period my tanks get a day until I put the lights back on timers. Fortunately, I have no green algae though.

Never mind,

Ignore request, Aug01st is sending me some

Thanks though and good luck with your outbreak

Thanks Au01st for that info.....jeff actually beat me to the ratio ?.....and Dakota....I do still have almost a full container....very small containers it comes in....but I could probably meet you Tuesday evening when you get off work....so you'd need about 5 scoops....pm me and let me know.....

Lol.....nevermind....thanks an you too.....it's not a horrific outbreak.....more just annoying me and I hate not having a clean tank......little OCD

Do you use just regular white vinegar.....and cheap vodka?.....and non bleached sugar?....

Kroger brand white vinegar. Aristocrat vodka. Sugar from the jar on my counter, lol. Don't know what brand, I don't fill it up.

After D gets done with the Chemiclean, if there's any left and someone else needs it, feel free. I used it once, found VSV works better for me.

Acroholic;491364 wrote: Chemiclean works, but you need to follow the instructions to the letter. Particularly siphoning all the cyano you can from the tank before you treat. If you don't, then all the dead cyano will spike your ammonia, and that is how threads stating "Chemiclean Nuked My Tank" get started. Also, keep an eye on your protein skimmer afterwards. Mine wanted to overfoam for about a week after I used Chemiclean last year.

Coming in a tad late it seems, but that is what I was going to say.. From my understanding Chemiclean works really well IF you follow the directions word for word.. With the 20 WC being one of the main issues.. Everytime I have seen a CC killed my tank thread, 95% of time its because of user error..

The only thing I'm worried about using CC are my SPS colonies....so I'm going to replace the chemipure elite bag tonite and go ahead and do another 15g WC and turn the skimmer back on.....only my monti cap seems to have any problems since I dosed the CC..........just a few spots on the edges.....the CP has ferric oxide in it along with the rest of the mixture of carbon....should have helped more with phosphate and nitrates.....guess I'll be going to the liquor store tonite and getting some vodka!!!!.....need some rum anyways :D

Usually from what I know.....the CC killed my tank has alot to do with using to much for actual water volume.....and not doing the needed WC.....like Hackman has reiterated in numerous threads.....if you don't know how much actual water you have from displacement then it can cause problems with everything you dose.....there's a spreadsheet somewhere that actually tells you the amount of water displaced from weight of the rock.....wish I could remember where I found it...could be helpful to alot of ppl.....

Found it!!!!.......it's ballpark but helpful

Is this mixed up all in one jar and then dosed a little at a time correct?

Yes, this is all mixed at once, then dosed about 0.5 to 1ml at a time depending on my nitrate readings.

I actually reused one of the bottles from "Sparky" from the pods he sent out. I keep one with VSV, and use the other to mix up Vitamin C and RO/DI (must always mix that dose just before using...twice a day...)

Well cyano is gone...woohoo!!!...and Ive made up my VSV mixture to start dosing in the morning.....

Yeah.....it says it takes 48 hours.....then do water change but since I have SPS I I'd the WC after 36 hrs.....my trates aren't even registering....which I don't think is actually possible but the seachem test says so.....but no traces of cyano at all today....put back in the chemipure bag and seems all is well.....guess I'll truely find out tomorrow.....that's when I'm starting my VSV dosing anyways....

Is your skimmer back on? Get it going again (it may overflow a bit after the Chemiclean) because you need that running when VSV dosing. Do not dose unless you have an appropriately (or bit oversized) skimmer working correctly and pulling gunk.
