In lower flow or small tanks, it's a good idea to add an airstone or an extra powerhead, for the drop in dissolved oxygen and pH that can occur.
I usually suggest treating early in the day, as well, because overnight, pH drops naturally. Treating earlier in the day minimizes the impact on pH.
