Ok…she’s up! Well…kind of. I hope to post a build thread/timeline of my 175 this weekend with some pictures. But for now I am kind of hangin in limbo.
Need some advice.

Originally I was just going to transfer the livestock/rock/corals and everything from my 75 over to the 175. Do some big water changes and maybe end up with 50% mature water and 50% new. But I then decided I had too many variables and things I wanted to do first before I moved stuff over. I want to take my time with the scaping and make sure I have the temperature and flow through the sump dialed in just right before I start moving things over. I want everything perfect before I move any animals. I also have some rock cured I will be adding to my existing LR in the new tank. Will this cause a cycle?

I also have sand I will be adding after the rock at some point I got from another member. I cleaned the bejesus out of it. With lots of buckets and a garden hose I strained all the little shells and coral pieces out and rinsed and rinsed until the water did not cloud and there was no smell. I packed it away in buckets until I was ready to use it. Well… I opened the lid on one of the buckets the other day and it smelled pretty funky. My intent was to move it all into a brute saltwater cure for a while before putting it into the tank. Looks like I will be rinsing at all again. This time I will rinse and put directly in the tank…I guess.
Will this cause a cycle?

I have never cycled a tank before. The one I have now started as a fowler and I just used some mature water to start it up.

Do I want a cycle?
Do I want to avoid a cycle?
Can I avoid a cycle?

I would just assume that you will have a cycle and plan for it. No sense in rushing if you have the time to go slowly.

So I am ok till I add the sand? Then a cycle will begin?

And yeah Bob...I am in no hurry. It took me a year to get water in it. I can wait for a cycle.
