Damsel ???

Are damsels aggressive towards inverts? I am toying with the idea of a mostly damsel reef. I have a mated pair of clowns w/bubbletip anemone, green chromis and yellow watchmen goby and skunk cleaner shrimp, gonna add pistol shrimp for goby soon. I was thinking of adding some damsels, maybe sargent majors or dominos or both, any thoughts or advise would be appreciated.

it's up to you, but Damsels suck, IMHO. They are very aggressive (most) to most fish. They shouldn't bother your inverts, however.

Somebody phoned me today because their damsel (that they didn't get from me) was picking at their anemone (that they didn't get from me).

I thought that was odd - it's not typical in my experience, but damsels for the most part, are the biggest bullies around.

If you enjoy having your hands mercilessly attacked when reaching in......add damsels. I have one (4 stripe) and the only reason i keep him is because he was one of my first fish. I heard somewhere the domino's are the meanest of all damsels...not sure if its true though.

Some dominoes get HUGE!

They and Sergeant Majors are pretty nasty.

i had a 4 stripe that would take skin off when i went in the tank
i hate em
but if thats what you want then give it a shot
i would add 3 or 4 at a time though to keep them from fighting

Yep, and one of the stupid things I did was add my fire clown to the frag tank at the shop. I get hit every time I bag a coral. I guess it keeps other peoples hands out at the same time though.

+1!! Even the small juvs that I picked up a couple years ago would attack my hands any time I went near the tank. Made it tough to keep the glass clean!

Was it trying to host the nem? Biting at it or getting itself built up to it?

Good decision to scrap the idea... I know one person who had the idea to do what you were thinking about. I said from the beginning it wasn't gonna work, but what do I know?

In a couple of weeks, 11 damsels (in a 120g, I think... a good-sized tank, at any rate) had turned into two or three. At that point the remaining ones were rehomed, or possibly fed to the cat.

I think that pure reef has a "damsel tank" on the right when you walk in... (it's got to be over 150gals....
