I have a 5' 150g tank. When the time is right I would "like" to add 1 each of a yellow tang, a bristletooth tang, a convict tang and/or a yellow eye tang. In the end I will have 12 fish total. If I have to give up 1 or 2 it will be the most agressive. I also have a 30g quarantine tank. Can all 4 be quarantined at the same time and introduced to the tank at the same time?

30 long? I would qt them all together. Just my personal opinion. Throw a bunch of pvc elbows in there so they can have their own spot. I would also do copper on all of them as well since tangs do well in copper anyways.

QTing all together would depend on what size they are when you get them.

All of those fish at 50% of the adult size in a 30l at the same time? Yikes - if they do all eat how are you going to manage both Ammonia and keep Copper at therapeutic levels?

Can I have all 4? My qt is a 30 tall.

Very true regarding the size. I didn’t even think of this because I tend to buy Juveniles and like to raise them up. As far as ammonia, if you haven’t already, I would get some bio media and start soaking in your current tank to use now. I tend to keep matrix and marine pure spheres readily. Else, get an ammonia badge and some prime handy in case you see any spikes.

30 tall is tough cause they don’t have enough real estate to spread out.

Another option - and it's what I've switched over too - is to buy all properly quarantined fish.

I treated all my tanks with API GC & Selcon soaked food for 2 weeks - I knew I had some internal parasite as I had a yellow tang that was eating great but getting skinnier.

Since then - I've purchased fully quarantined fish and I have to say I've had great luck so far. I'm pretty confident that I have disease free tanks at this point.

FWIW every tank I have has gone through 75+ days of being fish fallow at some point in time

Can it be more expensive ? yep - but not as much as you would think. Plus the personal level of service you get from someone that really cares about the animals they are selling you is great.

For reference - I paid $253 for a medium hippo tang, 2 large yellow tailed blue damsels and 3 pajama cardinals - that cost included shipping and I was in fairly constant contact with the seller.

He's currently quarantining a couple more fish for me. :D

I remember you mentioning this in another thread, who is the vendor again?

Personally I've been using Jeff at https://fishotel.com

There are a handful that are supporters over on Humble.fish

Generally the way they work - they'll let you know what their wholesalers have and when they will be placing an order. I choose what fish I want - as long as the wholesaler still has it they order it, go through a full quarantine procedure, once the fish are healthy you pay and they ship.

Occasionally they have fish in stock that are pre-quarantined due to either getting a really good deal on a popular fish or someone backing out of an order.

ok @imm1967, good point.I have a 20 long also but I didn't want to use copper in it. I was going to use it for a coral qt.

Where do you buy your quarantined fish from?
