http://www.saltwaterfish.com">www.saltwaterfish.com</a> Then look to the left hand side of the screen, it should say Message Board about 2/3 of the way down the page, the very last in the list of options to click on. Then go to the Reef Discussion or Reef Tanks option. Across the top click Search this Forum. The way you have to search the message board is sort of tricky and you have to make sure you put in an Image Verification word before it will do the search. Then type in 240g in wall shallow reef build, choose to search Titles. It should be the only thing that pops up. I'm going to attach the link here, but not sure if it will work or not with out the Image Verification word.

Its the only build thread that I've ever actually read all of the way through and have gone back time and again to look over the pictures and everytime I'm just amazed at the look and concept that he has produced. It looks natural, full but not over crowded.

ENJOY!

What concerns me most about that tank is the fact that they cut through the middle part of their wall and didn't bother adding a header or any other type of supports for the 2x4s. Those wooden sticks aren't there for kicks... they actually hold up the house....

Hmmmm, good point, maybe this isn't a load bearing wall. I don't know. I was a bit more focused on the pretty pictures....lol....what can I say, I'm a chick!:D

Chick or not you are probably correct. That is not a load bearing wall more than likely if it were there would not be a tank in one piece under it . In some houses depending on the design ,none of the interior walls are load bearing. Especially with the engineered truss roof systems that are being used so that the roof load is transferred to the perimeter walls.

I don't think it is load bearing but I do agree that he needed at least one 2x as a srong back to take flex out of the wall! Good eye by the way!

ok....aside from the wall and concerns of a crash (the tank has been set up for more than one year...btw)

What do you guys think of the ending result of his aquascaping and the process of the aquascaping that got him from point A to point B?

Looks great good find!! I had thrown the idea of a shallow in the floor tank but could not figure out thre lighting. The aquascaping is fantastic in his tank . that type gives so much dimension to the tank.

Yeah...my next set up will either be a 30-60 galcube AIO or a huge shallow. If I do another before I get out of school, it will have to be the cube (moving the 235 is going to be bad enough when the time comes, no reason to have two that size!).

BUT....when I get all educated and such and figure out what I wanna be when I grow up (should be sometime around the age of 40ish, 4 more years from now when all is said and done), I'm going with a shallow 8 footer. I really prefer the look of corals that grow out more so than up. AND....easier access to everything, my arms are too short for reaching into the tall tank I have now. lol

I would love to know how much money is wrapped up into this guys "little" project. I'm sure it would make me pass out!

I like the layout, but I really don't like the rock - it looks straight out of a freshwater tank - very flat and no texture. But that's just my opinion - if you like the look, then go for it.

That is what I thought when I was reading through, until I saw the finished product.

Honestly, anything completely covered in corals looks good. Take a look at the wire racks that Joe posted about in http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33214">this thread</a> - in a few years, they'll look phenomenal, and they're just wire.

Hmm... maybe I should start growing corals on myself... :)

Think we may have gotten off of the beaten path first established by the OP, but YES.....I've seen that, very cool. I think that Smoothie had originally posted that or something like that, it was on Discovery Channel. May have been narrated by Mike Rowe, if memory serves correctly. VERY VERY cool. BUT, until it grows out, you've got a framework look.

that tank smokes! what a nice setup.
you live in roswell too i see. maybe someday we can meet up
and you can show me how you did it.
im new to all this. right now i have a 30 fowlr and
setting on a empty 50gal, waiting.
i like the looks of a touch less rock, with some coral,
and plenty of swimming area. people always have this cool looking stacked rock. they swear its not glued. how do you folks do that? its amazing to me.

LOL.. Easy.. Years of experience or hours of rock slides until its just right and seems stable enough.. Some people love stacking rock. Its their favorite part of setting up a tank, I on the other hand loathe having to do it.. Hands in the water that long eats my skin up.. I get it half azzed in and make minor adjustments to my liking and them I'm done..

some of the ones i see look like they are about to fall over but they are solid. ive seen folks use PVC to stair stack rocks and corals. its crazy.
thats the part that impresses me the most. true talent.

Thanks, although that's an old picture- the corals have grown over most of the rock, and there's sand and some other stuff in there now. As always, a work in progress.

PM me and we can set something up.

wow now that would be very cool.
i too like the way you have the lights fixed in place.
the whole design is very unique.

Thanks for all the responses....for some reason I stop getting emails when ppl respond after like the 4th response to the thread.....so Im counting on getting notified and Im not....weird.

Anyway, Chris......very cool looking. And yeah....im not looking for anything in particular, just ideas. I like the left leaning look.

Ga_daisy....great find.....I will say I am not a hug fan of the all shelf rock look.....I dont think its too natural....looks more like some planted FW aquariums.....

However, that build thread is incredible.....

well, keep em coming if you got em.

thx.

You should only get one email update until the next time you login, so that your mailbox doesn't get flooded with updates, so sometimes it appears that multiple updates get missed.

Well, it wasn't supposed to be completely open on the left- a large gigas clam was supposed to go there, but it didn't make it through the rock swap... oh well..
