Delayed shipment from NYAquatic

i have ordered many many times from ny aquatic, they have always done me right with doa, delays, etc...
Well he kept “coming up short” on 1 of the fish I had on the order for 3 weeks, kept telling me he was getting another one each week, then ultimately requesting we switch it to another fish.. then this delay. I’ve got the fish that died refunded so far, but saying no on the shipping refund. Call me Karen, but I paid him to pay for overnight, if UPS refunds failed postage I can’t fight them for the refund, he’ll have to - regardless of if UPS has loopholes. I even offered to take 75% of the shipping, so he could recoup shipping supplies expenses. For all I know he got refunded postage, maybe even a claim..

This is cut ties with NYA for me. How they handle the shipping refund is whether or not is whether I deter others from using them whenever they pop up. P.s. I’ve spent $2k+ with them.

It might be different now that they have blown up so big, My last order from them was almost a year ago now so take that as you wish. Im only speaking on my past experiences. as far as a shipping refund i have never even tried to get a refund for shipping, i always just consider that a loss either way as long as i get FULL refund for live stock.

One big thing to consider about ordering online is Time of year, and weather conditions around the country.

i had a ground shippment from brs go to LA before coming to atlanta trying to avoid the weather a few weeks ago.

Update: Got the reply email from Michael this morning. In light of the negligent packing being so out of line with their standards, he's making a one time exception for me. They're sending me a replacement, completely free of charge! Now I'm just crossing my fingers that UPS will get it right this time, and there are no delays.

Yea, I normally wouldn’t request shipping to be refunded, if there weren’t all these other negative factors at play here.. It’s moreso the newfound information of UPS refunding failed next-day postage, assuming they don’t claim weather. When 1 out of 5 fish survived, and $80 shipping, I feel pressed to at least push to recoup some expenses. I wouldn’t have bought 1 fish with $80 shipping.

This thing delayed at their warehouse in Kentucky, didn’t see any weather issues. It’d be different if it was my local driver UPS pulling some BS, but it didn’t make it to the area next day.

Yep, same thing with my shipment. It was held up in Louisville, KY, due to weather and a "delayed flight". As for the shipping refund, or rather, asking NYAquatic to pay for the replacement shipping, I normally wouldn't have. But their normal packing protocol wasn't followed. Once Michael realized that, he agreed to cover shipping costs and send the replacement.

Yea, he offered to ship the next thing free instead of refunding the shipping, so they must be more likely to receive a postage credit for the delay rather than a refund. Probably from doing a decent amount of business with them.

I’m timid to order anything else, going all keyboard warrior on this with him, and because I don’t want any DOA risk. Really sucks having multiple casualties.

Note to self: IF I order any livestock online, record video of the entire receipt and unboxing process, so that there can be NO debate about condition upon receipt.

That's what I'll be doing from here on out, if I decide to do any online orders.

I wasn't sure if this is the right place to post this, so Mods, please let me know if it's not, and the right forum. This might be the last time I order anything live online. I've had some very negative experiences with UPS deliveries recently, and today's has done it for me! I ordered a small, 1 inch tomini tang from NYAquatic, to be shipped overnight, next day air, and delivered today. Just got an email from UPS, saying that the delivery is delayed until tomorrow! I don't know how NYAquatic packs their fish for shipping, but I'm not at all confident that the fish will be alive when I get it. Has anyone had any experience with shipments from NYAquatic? Is there even a minute chance that it will survive the delay? I've been wanting this fish for a long time now, so this situation is just...ugh, I don't have words the mods will allow.
Happened to me last week and it was all UPS fault. I ordered some Berghia and I got the same exact message from UPS. They are going the way of Fed Ex. We pay for next day air and we get 2nd day air. They suck

Yep, but they won't issue a refund, despite not providing the service you paid for. NEXT DAY air...not 2 day delivery, not "whenever we feel like it" delivery, or "as long as the weather is good and the driver won't be uncomfortable getting out of the truck" delivery, which is what I seem to be dealing with in my area. Two simple words that they don't seem to comprehend the meaning of, especially when they don't follow through with it and you ask for a refund. Dry goods, I don't care as much. But when these animals die because of delayed deliveries, yes, I get pretty wound up.

Out of curiosity what was the fish you ordered? Sorry if you told us already.

A tomini tang. The same carelessness and negligent handling by UPS cost me a group of berghia in December, and I almost lost a fire fish. So yeah, I don't feel confident about ordering anything live online now.

This has been a recent thing with UPS. I’ve noticed them getting things hung up in Kentucky or in Atlanta all the time. It’s gotten worse than ever.

I received the replacement order yesterday, on schedule. They got it right. Hooray! 🙄. The fish looks like it traveled by Greyhound to get here (if you've ever traveled long distance by bus, you know what I mean lol). Body color is paler than I expected, and the color overall looked dull. My biggest concern is that the dorsal and tail fins are pretty ragged, with about a third of the tail fin missing. An email from Michael at NYAquatic says it's "most likely" from being picked on by the other tomini tangs it was kept with, and it should grow back quickly. Should I treat with Prazipro as a prophylactic, or just monitor for a while first, and only use it if necessary? How long would I need to monitor to determine if treatment is needed?

most of the time the fin does grow back but you should still QT'd it or at least monitor it before putting into your tank. the fin doesn't look terrible in the pic so i would say 2 weeks of monitoring to start with. most importantly make sure that it eats and eats a good diet.

Oh he most definitely went into a qt tank, and he'll be in there for a while. I've heard that tangs, even healthy ones, are very prone to ich, and even the stress of transport can cause an outbreak. So I went ahead and set up the only tank I had -- a 10 gallon...don't call the tang police on me! Is it normal for them to not eat right away, as in, the first day? What would be the most "enticing" food to offer?

All my tangs have accepted flakes and pellets right off the bat, as well as frozen. Mysis and Brine shrimp would probably be most enticing. I would definitely include Nori soaked in Selcon in his diet.

Freaking can’t believe this shstuff. Been waiting since morning for an overnight package this time from fedex. Way past normal delivery time. I’m leaving in a few hours. Ready to go postal. ;)

The more and more I read... the more and more disinclined I am to try ordering online anymore, especially not where expensive fish are concerned. Even when the seller isn't screwing up by the numbers, the shippers are not even TRYING to honor their commitments to safe handling and timely delivery. I don't know that I'm particularly interested in wasting tons of time, effort, and salt mix QT'ing fish that are just going to die half the time anyway, and then go through the whole credit and re-ship song and dance.

Knowing my delivery people around here, they'd shove it in the mailbox on a freezing/scorching day at either 0700 or 1900, or set it in the sun next to my garage door instead of walking the 30' to my front door. The best ones are the rare occasion someone forgets and leaves the garage door open, they just set it randomly somewhere inside.

You'd think, after so many claims and losses, the sellers would try to find a shipper that gives a 💩 and can actually live up to promises, especially when you're paying that much for the shipping.
