I recently bought a small group of "dendros" from a sponsor and have been questioning whether or not they are actually dendros and not sun polyps.

Than and Dawgface how were you able to tell the species just by looking at the picture? What characteristic gave it away?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Edit:

Edit:

Dendro bodies are relatively hard. They have a calcium shell. Sun coral have a fleshy exterior. The polyps extenstion on sun corals will have a luminances to them, while the dendro will have a translucent apparence . The polyp extensions on sun coral will be much much longer than the actual body as well.

Edit: My dendros colonies

Thanks for the info Thanh, I think I know what i have but I may need to post pics here to confirm.

Here are a couple phone pics. The first one was taken 5 minutes after they were put in the tank, and the second one was taken early in the morning right after the lights were turned on.

I bought them last weekend, and I really like them, I would like to know what they are though.

Thanks,

Eric

Dendros are also generally significantly larger in diameter than sun corals are. And ~5x the price.

Not necessarily on the size but true on the price! I have a branching dendro that has smaller polyps than a typical sun coral. I also have some dentros with larger polyps.

I agree with you guys, these are Sun corals.

au alum, love the color of that Sun coral!
