Have found an old thread on th ARC secret archives that I couldn't even reply because it was to old, the thread was to old, not me, :shades: well, just want to hear some experiences on users, long term? Short term? Was it worth the invesment vs the results? ( for the ones with an specific brand, not DIY's) would you change your method on keeping trates low? Any visible illness due/related/possible on coral for using it?
Thinking on invest on a brand name one for my future)---))):shout:setup

Thanks for sharing your opinion

They definitely work!

There really isnt much difference between the brands. More so the kinds of denitrators. Be sure you dont get one that needs to be "fed" bacteria. And the coil types are very finiky. The sulphur based ones are the most effective but they still require some fine tuning.

and if you want to try one Im selling a DIY one pretty cheap.

Hey Dany double funny fact there, first you actually were participating in the thread that I was reading with date 2008! Then second one is that your saying: "oh yeah, they definitely work!" Then "here buy mine" omg that was funny ;)

Actually the one I have for sale was on a clients tank that was taken down. I had one just like it on my system for 3 years, and now have a much nicer built even bigger one.

If you like high bio loads, and over feeding like I do they are great to have around.

I use a sulfur based one on my 465 and it works well. If you scan the RC FS threads you will see them come up once in a while. Or do a search of the FS forum under "sulfur".

There is a DIY thread in which Grouper Therapy and maybe Ender (IIRC) did a group DIY sulfur denitrator build a while back, and I think Jen supplied/ordered in the powerheads for the recirculation.

My sulfur denitrator is one by Midwest Aquatics, called a sulfur deniitrifier, and I think it is a knockoff design based on the Korallin unit that you can still buy. They come in large and small capacity, depending on your bioload and tank system volume. They cost a lot to buy premade/new. Used ones are quite reasonable.

You could also adapt a used recirculating calcium reactor to do the job as well.

The only caveat to using a sulfur denitrator I would give you is to make sure you break it down once a year or so to clean the detritus out of the reactor. The dead anaerobic bacteria in the unit can accumulate, and make it hard to adjust the effluent flow through it. I use a peristaltic dosing pump to feed mine water, and it eliminates tis issue, but I still clean the denitrator once a year or so anyways just to make sure I don't get any dead spots in the reactor media that could build up and release hydrogen sulfide. These would probably show up as black areas in the media, which is another plus for using a clear reactor body vs a solid PVC type. My denitrator uses a clear reactor body.

Thank you Dave! Yes, I have done some research on eliminating nitrates and found the source of them first, well eventually they could pop up but preventing would be the key. I have seen your denitrifier and your system and they both are amazing!
The quality on Korrallin brand and Midwest is about the same, and the Eheim pumps are worry free, well, they tend to burn impeller some times but they very reliable, long lasting and QUIET.
My reason to ask users was to hear personal experiences, might be some others choose to use denitrifiers like aquaripure and they keep up with the chorus of feeding the internal bacteria, I want to know, or for example the people that just left the alone then have, like you said, problems due to H2S form from decayed bacteria, HERE IS WHY I HAVE THE WHOLE MEANING OF THE THREAD, sorry I was so loud hehehe, Health issues from exposing to H2S , hope to hear more from personal experiences and keep me informed and give advice to fellas who need it.

I personally would choose a clear acrylic one as well, might be a dual chamber one to increase my chances for using another media after sulfur.
