Hi ARC DIY enthusiasts, I’m considering building an automated water change system for my 120-gallon reef tank. I’m thinking of using a peristaltic pump setup or an ATO-style controller to handle both draining and replenishing water with minimal manual work.

For those who’ve built similar systems, could you share your design details, equipment choices, and any pitfalls or maintenance considerations you discovered along the way? I’d appreciate photos or diagrams if available, and lessons learned about what you’d do differently. Thanks!

Did you make one? I want to set one up as well. Are you using a controller? I will be doing something with Hydros. I considered the AWC pump but am looking for a more cost effective solution.

I use 2 Hydros soles. Hydros sensors. 55g fresh and salt reservoirs. I do 12 changes/day that equal 2% of total volume on my 180g every day for a week, every couple weeks or so. Works flawlessly. Just took a little time to dial in the calibration to make sure that the drain and fill were equal amounts. Let me know if you have any questions.
