Dialing in MR2 SKIMMER

Just hooked up my skimmer MR2 for a quick test before i finish my sump build tomorrow. I have the dual injector and have it running in sump teed to a Mag 24 pump. water level of sump about 8-9" (the lowest I could go) and no matter what i do the water level in the skimmer stays about halfway up the riser, gate valve fully open, both air valves fully open. am I doing it wrong or is my pump too powerful?

Is the M24 the return pump? If it's run externally, it shouldn't matter what the depth of the water in the sump is. If the gate valve is fully open and the water level is too high, then you might be pushing too much water through.

No the M24 is the skimmer feed pump, I was told that a M24 was the pump to use when running in sump and not external and a mag 18 would not be powerful enough.....Water came shooting out of the collection cup overflow drain line like a firehose! good thing i was in my garage

thats what im doing right now, water level is currently 3/4 way up the riser tube and pretty calm. instructions said 2" and its about 8" or so - Ill see if it settles down, just hope i dont need a weaker pump - bought this one new and cost a small fortune

You dont need a weaker pump.. more like a external pressure rated pump..

cant i just dial back the mag 24 with a ball valve/gate valve? or will that kill the pump?

I could snap you some pics of mine, but its external with a pressure pump.. quite the opposite of yours..

Do this.

You wont want the air valves open all the way. Open them until you are satisfied with the bubble size.

Don't worry about the pump; it's not too powerful!

Ive seen yours a couple times, yeah - way different set up. external is not an option for me

so the fact that the water level in the skimmer never falls below 3/4 way up the riser tube is ok as long as i am getting the bubbles i want? I had to shut it down cuz i needed the tank it was in but it looked like it was about ready to produce some nice foam..

Is that the water level with no air or with air? If with air, then you're fine. If without air, it will overflow.

I would raise the skimmer up an inch or two in the sump maybe. M24 should be just fine.

I built a 1" riser to raise it up a bit -

Raj - i can remember but i beleive that is with a little air, no air it sits about half.

I am going to throttle back the pump just a hair to calm things down and go from there..
