I was hoping to get some feedback regarding something I've been noticing in my tank. I recently (about 2 months ago) purchased a diatom filter for my 90 gallon reef tank. I run it for aprox an hour once every 7-14 days (just to polish). Within the past few weeks however, I have noticed that my once explosive population of amphipods and copepods is now - from what I can see - non existent.
The tank consists of a growing Regal Tangs (aprox 3-4 inches now), a Mandarin that I have had for almost 2 years, a yellow blenny, two Percula clowns, a Royal Gramma, and a Blue Gudgeon. All of these fish have been in the tank for a year now and the amphipod / copepod population has been high the entire time until now. Does anyone know if the diatom filter could have destroyed the population of pods that I once had for as little as I run it?
Also, does anyone know a local (or reputable online) dealer that sells amphipods?
Thank you all!
