So I picked up a coralvue dimmable ballast at the meeting last night and wanting to make sure that you are able to make strength adjustments while it is on and it won't hurt the bulb or anything.

Thanks,
Colin

I have all dimmable CV ballasts and I do it when the bulbs are on. No harm to the bulbs.

So I'm doing some testing with the ballast and kill a watt meter, and noticed something interesting. When I put the knob to min the amps and watts used be the ballast are the same as when the knob is at mix, is that normal?? I thought that the ballast would use less power then when at the minimum setting.
Also isn't the color spectrum suppose to be different at lower power, cause again I'm not seeing any difference in color from minimum to maximum.

make sure the bulb and ballast are warm before you adjust. I can see a noticeable difference in color and brightness when I turn mine up and down....

CoralVue ballasts have a built in safety that prevents any dimming for about 8 minutes from startup, so the bulb and ballast are warmed up prior to the dimmer function working.

For example, if you started the bulb and put the dimmer to the lowest setting, it would still operate at normal power/amperage draw for 8 minutes, then after that time the ballast goes to the low setting. Then you can switch between the different dimmer settings.

Are you allowing this 8 minute time to pass before playing with the dimmer?

Also, my radiums become bluer the more I dim the bulb. Very noticeable contrast at lower or overdrive settings like Matt said. They get whiter in overdrive.

Matt and Dave thanks for the info it was just a quick test I did so that makes me feel better.

Can't install the new ballast till I get back from my trip this weekend. But I'm excited now.
