Does the color of skimmate tell you anything about your tank? I have one tank that puts out brown skim and one tank that puts out green. Other than both being disgusting, do the colors tell you anything? There is less algea in the tank with the green skim so I dont think that is it. Just wondering.

If the collection cup is near a light source, skimmate can turn green quite quickly after it's been collected, but before it's disposed of.

Wetness is about the same. The green one is in a cabinet with no light. Just curious as to why the difference in color.

thats funny you mentioned this. my skimate was dark like coffee the other day. added a light to my new fuge and the next day it was a really cool green color. guess that answers my question!

I think it varies by what is skimmed out and also if there is a light source, it can promote algal growth in the skimmate collection cup. Are both tanks the same as far as what you feed in them?

Feeding is the same. One is a mixed reef and the other is a FOWLR. Not really much different in the lighting.
