I have started a 40gal breeder build, I have almost completed my stand just got to put some trim and doors on it. I'm at the point now where I'm making plans for a canopy but can't seem to find any plans for dummies any where. Anyone know off a good site to look at??

I just built one, check it out on my build thread. Endless possibilities but I used 2x2's and skinned it with 3/4" cabinet grade pine

If you can build the stand...the canopy should be a piece of cake! Go to any LFS that stock stands and canopies to get a look at how they're made. Fairly simple and straight forward. I had an old build thread on a canopy but I don't think it still has the pictures attached. Basically built it from 2 x 2's with a skin of 1/4" cabinet grade plywood. The top was made of regular 1x material. All the components came from Lowe's. Piano hinge the front for full access and you're done!

When I wrap it with the plywood do I cut the plywood where it will cover up the trim on the tank or cut it flush with the 2×2?

the 2 x 2 frame for the canopy is the same size as the tank frame. When you cover that, it will give you 1/4" play. On the outside, you use standard moldings for the corners, etc.

I came across a couple of canopy calculators on garf.org recently.
