Ok so i am looking into the diy led setup. I have a 60 inch tank and best I can tell I would need about 60 led's per side. What color combo would you rec and is there a website with a map of where to place each led on a heat sink to make the colors blend? I read in one diy build that you can run 24 in parallel instead of 12 in series to cut down on number of drivers. what is con of doing this? Anyone have any pics of how and where they mounted their drivers? Are there drivers that can run multiple strands?

The con to running multiple strands is that you can fry your leds without putting in-line fuses in place. Also, more leds per driver means less dimming resolution if you are interested in sunrise/sunset type dimming.

what are you referring to on less dimming resolution?i have several strands of 24 parallel and my rke with alc dim every string in 1% increments.never had a problem.

Think of the resolution like TV pixels. The more leds you string together the less control you have. Some people like to have a sunrise from left to right versus all of the tank at once.

Sorry for the confusion. Resolution also refers to the amount of dimming steps between 0 and 100%..
