After much thought and reading up on the subject I think I am going to start a Vodka dosing regimen beginning in February. I am going out of town later this month and dont want to screw up my regimen.

I was wondering if anyone else was planning this or on the fence about it. It would be fun to start a thread with a few of us starting this around the same time and share our results.

I was also thinking of trying to automate this once I get the steady daily dose down. I have an extra dosing pump, or is this a bad idea? Who actually doses vodka everyday by hand? Seems like it could be tedious and hard to keep up with.

Gary I may be going this route as well, still on the fence as my corals have made a dramatic bounce back since switching salts and upping my water changes but still feel they may be even better with dosing vodka, as I have lots of fish. As far as the dosing pump goes I think that is definitely the way to go so you want forget any or miss any doses. Let me know when you decide bro!

Where have you been reading about the dosing rates? I have been considering it myself, although no one in my area that I know of does it. Tagging along and thinking about it.

Gary i also want to try this. I have really stepped up to try to auto everything as well

I picked up a bottle a few weeks ago. I have only dosed it 3 times now, but I am interested to see how it works.

And you still run GFO right Ralph? My GFO reactor is a POS constantly getting clogged. Cant get it to tumble with the pump at fill blast..

I would not do automation on dosing. You got to monitor and adjust to often. Worked great for me when I was using it. Colors where bright, for sure. I got to the point I did not need to anymore.

Edit: follow it to the letter. reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php

I may try in February... I'll have to do more reading up on it. I read the article posted the other day and it peaked my interest.

I have been thinking about it also. I'm still unsure of how to dose properly but I would definitely do it to bring more color out in my corals.

4.5 ml/day on my 93g by hand

1.5L of seachem matrix

young tank - only 2.5 months

no gfo and no uv

Will definitely dose it in my 330g when it is up and running. Will also use 4+liters of matrix.

You need to do it daily.. perferrably twice a day, as in split the dose up to make it more consistent..

Did help me tremendously- got rid of a crap ton of hair algae. I got up to 4 mill liters a day and cut it in half the other week.

I am dosing two milliliters a day on about 300 gallons of water and everything looks pretty darn good.
