Dragonfly zoas being overrun

I had a healthy, beautiful plug of dragonfly zoas but the are being overrun with blue clove polyps. They are the only zoas in my aquarium that have been overrun. What I mean by overrun is that the blue cloves are growing all in between the zoas causing the zoas not to open all the way.

How can I get rid of the blue cloves in between the zoas. There are too many to tweeze off. Is there anything I can dip that will be detrimental to the blue cloves but ok for the zoas like hydrogen peroxide?

I'd rather have 50 aiptasias dumped in my reef tank than a single blue clove. Eccentric? Yes.

At least my copperband will eat aiptasia... Try killing blue cloves! The only way is fluke tabs. And they aren't made anymore

I've never removed them from within a colony. I have removed rocks and scrubbed them with a toothbrush under fresh water and eventually they still grow back. You might want to try and pull off some frags of your zoa's and sell/trade the existing rock with the polyps. They are pretty, but a PIA

Well I added the blue cloves because they are very pretty when they grow in a patch. I though they were like GSP and if I isolated the rock they were on then I would be fine. I should have researched before I bought. Now I have little blue cloves here and there all over.

So far they are only irritating the dragonfly zoas. The funny thing is that the patch I have hasn't been opening fully but the ones with the zoas are fully open and happy. Too bad the zoas aren't. Also the zoas are on the other side of the tank from the patch.

PS I would take the cloves over aiptasia any day. At least the cloves are pretty lol.

I used fluke tabs and dipped my zoanthid colonies in them. Worked great. Only 30 minutes at 1 tab per 5 gallon bucket. And can be reused. But finding them isnt easy.

idk if this would be a good idea cause ive never tried it so someone please chime in if you feel its not but what about kalk? since the zoas are not open they prob wont be affected that much just put a light kalk paste over the area and see if it kills the blue cloves

Kalk makes blue cloves stronger. They close for a day or two? And then open back up full blast. I've tried the laser, Kalk, and napalm

fluke dip is the only way.i had to break a beautiful reef down and start over because of them.that was before i knew about fluke tabs.i fluked my 120 6 months ago and not a clove to be found

Aiptasia. But I am not a huge fan of the laser. If I am not wearing the protective glasses, I can't really see what I am doing. My eyes are really sensitive to certain lights, and the laser is one of them. I can't look at where the laser is shining for very long with out having to look away, or turn the laser off. When I use the protective glasses, I have no problem.

Question:

I have some Green Neon Clove is this going to be as aggressive as the Blue Clove?
My huge Favia has kept it at bay but I don't want it creeping and getting annoying.

I've never seen a coral grow as quickly as blue cloves. LEDs can at least grow one thing....

You did it right, DIY is the only way to go. Me? I am happy with halides.

I have mine isolated on an island on a small chunk of tonga branch. They are not growing fast at all, but after all the horror stories I think I may remove them.

I intended to let 2 rocks (isolated but together) fight it out between GSP & BCP, but the last thing I want is BCP out of control.

i witnessed them send out tiny little rice grains and everywhere the grains landed,cloves appeared so isolating them may only buy you time.when they "spore"out[or whatever the technical term is]its too late.

To clear some confusion. I dipped my zoanthid colonies that were infested with clove polyps zoanthids were not harmed by the dip.

OK, direct me towards some fluke tabs. Sounds like something I used in the 80's when I had a freshwater aquarium.
