Drain Noise

ok this is an issue that i have just plain ignored until now.

Mag-Drive 9.5 return pump = 950 gph

drain line is 1.5 inch PVC. To cut down on the drain noise should I put in a valve of some sort and just restrict the flow a bit?

any ideas?

I would not recommend restricting inflo, have you tried a durso fitting? I did not have room for one in mind but I cut a piece of eggrate to the size of my overflow and put a piece of foad pad over it and it quieted down substanially

You need a durso stand pipes.

ive hand duroso on there since day 1

it isnt a flushing issue.. its just a loud trickling sound

I found the Durso to be very loud in my setup. I went back to a Hofer Gurgle Buster and have been happy. Is your sump inlet above or below the water line? I have mine come out just at the water's surface and it's pretty quiet. I would say the loudest thing in my setup is the fan on my halide ballast.

You could try restricting the return pump output a bit and see if that helps, but never restrict a drain or pump inlet.

Give this a shot if its an air sucking noise. I was experimenting and found a slit to be very quiet.

its not a air sucking noise or anything.. its the water INSIDE the pipe bouncing around that is making the noise.. i guess i can just monkey with it

Can you angle the drain slightly so the water rides it down instead of falling?

sometime a p-trap or s-trap will slow the fall down and help as well

ahh.. hadnt thought of that..

it isn't a STRAIT fall down.. but it's close. I used 2 45s to make a ... well another angle to go around something in the back.. and then its pretty much strait down.
