I have a fuzzy dwarf lion in my 50g refugium and he is maybe 2-2.5 inches inches and he refuses to eat.. he ate 2 tiny feeder fish from petsmart but left the other 2 to die 6 days ago, I have tried the ghost shrimp to which he has zero interest and I have tried frozen carnivore food as well as raw shrimp, squid and scallops from the publix counter and he wants nothing to do with anything.. Its been 6 days since he ate the 2 feeders and I really dont want him to be malnourished.

Any help or ideas would be helpful

6 days is not to bad for a lion. Try mysis shrimp. They actually prefer smaller items to eat. Or if its in your refugium it may be snacking on amphipods at night. Mine loved some amphipods.

Was he eating prepared foods when you bought him?

Always a good idea to make sure it is, before you buy...

Let him get a bit hungry. They aren't successful hunters every day in the wild. Keep trying with nutritious prepared foods. Feeders aren't that good for them.

You should probably stop feeding him goldfish lol. Try going with live silver side (freshy) . last time i owned a lionfish it was a good month before u ate regularly.

@Thanh386 I havent been able to find any saltwater feeder type fish anywhere. I am aware that feshwater feeders are bad for them which is why i was trying the frozen stuff from publix hoping it was as fresh as possible without being live lol although I have no problem in picking up live food to feed him i just dont know where to go and

@Jenn I dont know if he was or was not eating prepared foods for certain although I was told he was I am learning as I go that taking the persons word for it isnt always a good idea

if you must, go to a bait shop an buy small minnows and keep them in a small separate tank, still a much better alternative to goldfish and relatively the same price

I've read somewhere bait shop fish for horrible at having diseases?

we got ours kickstarted on fresh clam and oyster meat, once it got comfortable, it eats anything placed in front of it.

Thx for all the ideas I got some "jumbo" mysis from SEA that I'm going to try and trick it into eating along with a live ghost shrimp or 2
