Edge 6 Gal build

Joe , thats just the nature of halogens...they get hot as hell.

quick google search and I came up with these...you may have seen this site?

http://www.superbrightleds.com/bi-pin.html">http://www.superbrightleds.com/bi-pin.html</a>

they claim to have very low operating temps... from the site:

Very long service life up to 35 times longer than halogen bulbs
Very high efficacy up to 53 lumens per watts
No environmentally hazardous materials
Very low operating temperature
Cool Beams - no harmful UV or IR emissions
Rugged solid state construction
RoHS Compliant

Joe, you need a way to plumb this little guy into one of your systems. Then you wouldn't need to worry about temperature.

I have these little 1/4" OD John Guest bulkheads you are welcome to have if you ever decide to play with that idea. Only downside is that it might make it to where you couldnt keep the tank all the way full to the top glass.

just a thought here but what if you added a dimmer switch on the lights?
dimmer means cooler right?

Wonder if you could put those bulkheads on the "neck" that is concealed by the top of the tank, and just use an aqualifter to return to the tank.

Well the temp started getting to high on the warm days so I added a fan. It barely fit and I had to do some cutting to make it fit. You may be able to find smaller fans but I used one I had laying around. If I had it to do over again I would add a bracket and put the fan more towards the center and it would have fit much better. I drilled a hole for the cord to exit out the back so the lid fits on if nothing was their.

I also changed to a modded Koralia 1. as I think this well reduce the heat as well. I added a little two part epoxy and clue to attach the same Tunze magnet. The epoxy is their just to provide more surface area and allow you to remove the pump cover.

The LEDs helped with the heat tremendously but still needed a fan for good temp regulation.

I think I have now gotten all the major kinks out well enough to add some liv stock but still not sure what yet.

I am trying to keep this set up simple so no bulk heads as of now. If I make this to complicated I will get tired of it and take it down. :)
