I had to move my tank today, I was pretty sure I had plenty of water made up. I am not even close. I need about 15-20 gal of salt or RODI water ASAP. I am so embarrassed. I did not take into account the 30+ lbs of sand I threw out to go to bare bottom. If anyone in the Roswell area has either RODI or some salt water I could come get I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance. KAYAKATL.

I could haul my rear back to the shop - when I left there was a full vat of 100g of saltwater and I have containers for sale too if you need 'em.

KayakATL is on his way to AndyMan's, thank you everyone for the quick responses!!!

Lesson learned on making a surplus of water when moving... :bash2:

How long would mixed RODI water need to have been mixed in advance for it to not be caustic? Now I wonder if what KayakATL mixed in advance was mixed long enough ago too...

I think someone may not be so happy when he gets home and I read this to him... hmmm... I think I'll hide :wall: as he reads it...

lol... ut oh... so what' you're saying is I'm going to hear about whatever pieces of wonder and amazement andyman has... and never hear the end of he wanted... A thru Zz and how we need items 1 - 456... and then I'll somehow find myself agreeing and wanting it all too...

eh... pretty much sounds like everyday around here without going to someone's house... let's see how long it takes us before a 92 corner tank becomes more than a mere notion and turns into a reality... lol :cheerleader2:

i might be picking up one of those tomorrow. i dont know what im gonna do with it yet. my dentist wants it out of the office asap. lol

I know a place you can put it! You can even visit it, haha...

ugh don't say such things you add to the temptation... the new apartment we just spent the weekend moving into has made a corner tank seem like much more viable option...

theres two corner tanks there. i might grab them both if hes willing to part with both. what size tank do you have now?

It's a 55... we figured at some point we'd go larger anyway, sooner than later... with the placement of the fireplace and so forth in the place, having a rectangular tank is just a p.i.t.a. because we can't really put it anywhere "aesthetically" pleasing or not so intrusive... but we have a rather large and empty place between the fireplace and couch where a 92 would fit what appears to be seemingly perfect... as a temporary we have the 55 in the dining room, we figure if we take his friends 60 or bite the bullet and get a corner (more likely i'm thinking), we can have it cycling and what not without having to disrupt the corals or fish when it comes time to move them too much the next time...

he was so focused on water and not dinging the Stang, I'm sure he never noticed any of my "spares"

ROFL... oh Mark... missing out on all the goods, I'm disappointed if he really didn't notice... I wanted to hear of their glory!

Andy if you're looking for a 92 corner, a client of mine has a nice one for sale - complete with Metal Halide combo lights and all... and I think he has a Euroreef skimmer with...

:D

I must be the luckiest son of a gun in the whole world, seriously, a typical water change for me; 1) remove 20-25 gal from my 55 gal tank
2) mix 4-5 5 gal buckets of new water from my super duper carbon filter gizmo at the sink, make sure it's close to 78 degrees (close) and as soon as the salt is melted, add to tank.

now i do have some algae in the tank but that could be from the lack of a uv bulb in my uv filter, or the fact that my lights are probably 2 yrs old. i've been doing water changes this way for 6 yrs and never have lost a fish anytime after a water change, same day, next day, next week, next 2 weeks to my memory, not lost and corals after a water change, most of the time everything looks more happy the next day. caustic? i don't know if my experience concludes caustic. one thing i will admit is that all of you know more than me about this stuff, but if it is so caustic, how do i get away with a 50 percent water change the way i do it without killin anything?

again i'm sure you all are right about this and don't want to be a jerk or say it's not true, but........................how do i get away with it?

I'm not going to disagree and say you can't add freshly mixed salt but, if you measure several of your parameters over the first couple of hours you will see significant variation in the ionic balances of things. Why?

All of the salt 'dissociates' when it hits the water. The Na (in NaCl) wants to get a little ways away from the Cl, due to what is called the solvent effect. This happens with all of the salts, and the buffers too. It takes a little while for everything to reach it's 'happy place' (aka-equilibrium).

I prefer to stress things the least amount possible. However, as I have said before, you can't argue with success either.

ok. so its 12:30. 12.5 hrs after I started on moving the tank... ohh i dunno 200 yards. Thanks to Andy I have a tank FULL of water, filtration going, a room FULL of fish tank stuff in a 3/4 moved in apartment. I had to make 5 gal of fresh salt water. All the rest was transplant water or 14 hr old salt water heated and flowed. Andy's was mixed friday. I owe you HUGE!!! I am exhausted, sore, and... I dunno. My tank is totally put back together and all live stock is acclimated and doing pretty well so far as I can tell. Rick, if you want to resell a 92 corner PM me. Im sure I made some no nos today in this transplant but I will know better when I set up a corner tank. Andy, I did notice some of your extras. Im sure not nearly all. Good night. Ill catch up with you all tomorrow.
