Emergency Stuff

We all keep certain things for our tanks on hand for emergency's. I haven't been in the habit of keeping Weld-on though. I woke up today and found a small amount of water on the ground. After investigating i found a small crack in my skimmer body. I probably did it when i disassembled it for cleaning a couple days ago. I had some weld-on 3 left over from a project and was able to fix it but would of been in a spot if i didn't have it. I'll always keep a supply of weld-on around from now on.

I was wondering what everyone else keeps on hand for emergency's. I hate getting caught unprepared.

Polyfilter pad (removes all kinds of bad stuff from the water, can also remove medications from a hospital tank).

Seachem Prime (if you're out of RO and need to do an emergency water change, it will dechlorinate water). It will also bind up ammonia and nitrite in an emergency - doesn't make it "disappear" (it will still show up on a test kit) but it binds it and renders it less harmful)

Hospital tank and medications - anti-parasite, antibiotics.

Spare impeller and volute for your pump (esp. main return and perhaps for the skimmer).

Spare lamps (I usually keep one old set of lamps - a dim lamp is better than no lamp til a new replacement can be purchased).

Spare powerhead(s) - in case pump or other powerheads go down.

Batter powered air pump(s) in case of power failure. Don't forget spare batteries!

Those are a few things that are good to have on hand.

Don't forget the most important thing, a spare bin/tank in case the worst happens (tank goes splat)

BACK UP POWER... even if its just a battery backup for one VORTECH!!! No power for most ppl = tank crash

Good timing on the thread...I had a ballast go out this week. IceCap is very good about repairing them, but I just happened to have a spare (I run the same ballast on two different tanks, so it pays to have a spare) laying around. I can only imagine what would happen to my corals without full lighting for a week.

I also run a battery back-up by way of an APC UPS, keep extra VHO and metal halide bulbs, pumps, and a QT tank just in case.
