So I aquired a piece of rainbow encrusting monti, and I have a few questions. What kind of water flow should it have and same with lighting? Its sitting on the sandbed in my 29g, I have a metal halide with a phoenix hexarc blue 14k 150w bulb. The monti is sorta getting hit with water flow from my aquaclear filter. Is that enough? Its partly open, due to the fact my worthless crabs think its a great spot to hang out on.

Usually under metal halide monti's will do well medium way down in the tank. Its an SPS so medium to high flow is good. I can grow and color most monti's on my sandbed under 250w halides in a 24 inch deep tank. They don't require the amount of light most SPS do.

+1 to John. Leave it where its at for now and see how the colors come out. Some adjustment to its position may be needed later but maybe not. If it dosent color up well then move it up and then wait. Since it is an encrusting monti you may want to put on the rocks so that it will cover them. It will let you know where it wants to be. Also, its been my experience that they dont like direct hard flow. But a nice medium flow is great.
Those Rainbow Montis are some cool pieces.
