Any one know about these?I have a 250w version from what I saw online coralife bought them out. Is it pulse start?

Coralife has always been ESU as far back as I can remember.

They are owned by Central Garden and Pet, same company that owns All-Glass (aka Aqueon), Oceanic, Kent Marine, Kaytee, Jungle and a pile of other pet-related companies now.

ESU's reptile line is RZilla.

Is it safe to take the cover off to take a pic?It has a sticker saying it hold voltage in it.Online it looks just like the hqi version but im sure its not. its alt least 5 years old if that helps. I thought it was a 175w but now realized its a 250w .Any one know if they are worth keeping. I found another one for 50.00 it would get light in my 120g build

If it is a magnetic ballast, as opposed to an electronic version, it will have a transformer in it and be fairly heavy. The electronic versions are almost always significantly more efficient, unless poorly designed (ie-cheap). Both designs can have capacitors in them, which ususally look like little round cans with two connections on one of the flat ends. Capacitors can potentially hold a charge (voltage), sometimes several hundred volts, even after the power is removed. DO NOT TOUCH these, if you remove the cover. There is a way to safely discharge them, but if you know enough to recognize the components, the chances are you will know how to discharge capacitors as well. If not, get someone who is trained in electronics or an electrical engineer friend to help you. Otherwise you stand a good chance of getting hurt. JMO

Just open the cover Mark. I know your not very electically inclined but as long as you are just looking for the Ansi rating and don't touch anything else you will be fine. Ichthyoid is right about the caps though, but just dont touch them. Also is the cover riveted on? My energy saver ballast was.
