Has anyone used one of these? Comments, concerns? I am starting to set up for what will be roughly 300+ gal system with basement sump. I will need a chiller for a 92 to begin with moving up to a 92 and 150 in the not TOO distant future. Looking for something that can combat a good ole ATL summer. Price seems great. Looking for input.

Maybe he's talking about one of these inventions. Not for the faint of heart, IMO, based on a very quick review of the patents.

Never used one but I contemplated buying one for future use especially at the price Aquaticeco has them at.

Wow, that is a smoking deal... I wonder if that is the "they don't work so we're dumping them" sale, or the "They work but didn't sell so we're dumping them" sale...

I wonder how the tank size ratings run? That seems like awfully low flow rates.

I think maybe it's a..."oh yeah, by the way, you need a compressor to connect to in order to work, sale."

DOH!

I knew something didn't look right, but in my ignorance couldn't put my finger on it. So the application would be in a DIY chiller, or an "internal upgrade" to an existing chiller?

or geothermal

sorry about the no link... I had copied it, thought I had pasted but never reviewed it as it was the last 30 seconds of my lunch. sorry...

so yeah, good point. no compressor... Hmm... back to an array of fans. Budget stretched too thin for a chiller at the moment. Too many home renovation projects already. I am more and more interested in going geo thermal though.

that's because there isnt' enough coil surface area/dwell time to bring the temperature down any faster...

:-)

no problem.. just giving you a hard time..

I purchased one of the Chiller Fans on ebay and it is actually working pretty good. It is one of the six fan units and they run under $60. I run it on a 150 gal tank and it has literally kept the temp at 78-79 since I put it on. My tank was running near 83 and I had to do something. They look kinda like the Azoo fans. Not sure how long they will last but it definitely works.

The flow rates are listed in gpm not gph. The 2 hp is around 2400 gph. I don't run a chiller is that low?

yeah.. completely skipped over that little detail.. minutes/hours.. eh.. no big difference there...

Isn't that Erikson coil just a component of a chiller? Doesn't look like a stand alone, but something you'd pick out along with a compressor, chiller barrel and thermostat. By the time you are done pieceing it all together you are up in the costs, I'd think.

It is the chiller barrel. You could also use it to heat as well with a steam or hot water supply.

Yep, that's what I'm thinkin'...

Pushing heat around is not an easy thing to do, energetically speaking. As I recall, there's this thing called the law of thermodynamics...

(Sorry to sound a little sarcastic, I have been grilling ribs and got into the wine again :D, and they were goo-ood! ...Both of 'em)

Actually if some one had or knew someone who had taken advantage of the tax credit for upgrading their home hvac to high efficiency and the compressor unit lying around it would be fantastic deal. Ranco is all that is needed to control and maybe TXV to meter the refrigerant.

Be careful cooling a large system by evaporation only. All that evaporated water has to be removed from the air in your home or you may end up with mold issues. Usually not an issue in the winter (air is dry) or the middle of summer (AC takes a good bit of it out) but inbetween it can be a real problem.
