Why not just do your full LED build like you said you might be doing? Or you just want some quick supplement lighting for now?

I'm still not 100% sold to the long term effects or better word benefits of led. Plus $2700.00 is an insane among of money to dump on something, especially when my current lighting works fine. I figure with supplementing leds like these I can get the look that I'm after as well as keep the cost down.

Honestly at this point I'm just being overly indecisive.

Edit:

Normally $325.00 for one, I offered the guy $450.00 for both.

Is that figure for pre-made fixtures? I'm sure with a DIY build you could get that way down. I bought Rob's LED's and that cost me 420, with optics. Throw in some drivers and heatsinks and I might break 250 on that alone. And if you already have a apex or RKE then you don't need anything else. I as well am not sold yet completely on LED's long term but I will have two tanks and see how it goes. After reading all over the links you posted in regards to LED's I have gathered the only draw backs are slower growth for some corals and when you sell frags to other people who run MH or T5's they brown/bleach out until they get used to that light.

Here's a link

I just re-read this and saw this is for supplement lighting. I am using mine as the only light on a 34 Solana, all SPS is mid-way or higher in the tank and growing well, but I only have 2-3 pieces of SPS, mainly LPS dominated tank.

I have a 30" tall so I don't think they would work for anything other than supplemental for me. If they have enough par then great, less run tone on my MH.

Yes.

Yes.

That would depend on the optics that it comes with, if it is 60 degrees or more then supplemental only. 30 degrees or less and possibly. I wouldn't count on it growing any coral though unless you placed them up higher.

Dawgface,

I agree completely that on a 30" deep they would not provide much punch all the way down, but they can grow SPS. My light also sits about 8" above the surface, FWIW and the tank is a 20" cube. LMK if you want to check some numbers on the fixture or want to see it before you buy it kinda thing.

Supplement only then. The less the degree the more focused the light beam would be. This would also mean more of a spot light. But, with doing that you get par where you need it. So if you buy them then they would only be good for supplement only really.
