Hi ARC community,

I’m planning a 220‑gallon reef upgrade and would love to hear about the fish mixes that have worked well in your larger systems (180 gallons and up). I’m aiming for a diverse yet peaceful community with plenty of activity in the water column.

What tangs, wrasses, anthias or other showpiece fish have coexisted happily in your big tanks? Any species you’d avoid due to aggression or size? How do you balance providing enough swimming room while keeping the tank lively?

Looking forward to your experiences and stocking suggestions!

I would also love to know. Im setting up a 6x2x2 tank. Carrying over all my fish. Possibly letting the tomini tang go. I read they are supposed to be chill and ok. He would chase the foxface but the powder brown straightened that out. Powder and foxface were added together and they are best buds. Tomini was added before so that may be why. They all get along now but I want another tang or two. I have three right now. Two wrasse and want to add more of those and a few anthias.

My biggest recommendation is quarantine. Do it. Do it well and dont trust anything coming from someone else's tank. A frag can wipe out a system over night. @Humblefish has an amazing forum dedicated to just that and its full of awesome folks. I use a different username over there.
