I got some sun coral today at the frag meet and I know I have to feed it. I'm just wondering how much it will be eating from the natural pods and mysis shrimp in my tank. How much is direct feeding needed from me?

You're pretty much gonna have to feed it two to three times a week for it to stay healthy. I generally use a turkey basted and blast it with cyclopeze a few times a week. It feeds the sun coral and the rest that gets in the water column feeds the fish.

First off Thank you if you purchased with us. Second what crew said, even though some people will say that they are hard to keep they are actually pretty easy. They don't require light for photosynthesis so yes you will need to target feed them. If you have a turkey baster that will work or if your tank is deep or the coral is in a hard to reach place you can purchase a sea squirt made by Kent. You can train your sun coral to open when you want if you feed it at the same time. Also if you have a lot of fish or shrimp make sure that they don't steal food from the sun coral since they take a little time to engulf their food. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with your coral!

Glad to say it had opened up by the evening and I fed it thawed brine shrimp tonight which it happily took.

Ditch the brine and feed it mysis. Alot more punch. Enjoy the coral it is one of my favorites. What else can you really get up whenever and go feed lights or not?

I got one from deep blue about a month ago. It's grown around 2 to 3 new heads. I keep it under a ledge and it stays open all day.

I got fresh mysis for it today and will try to grab some pics tonight. Its only partially open during the day, which seem to be pretty good for just moving in yesterday. The brine were just what I had in the freezer but I took your advise and got the bigger ones. Do they really eat the whole thing? They are like half inch long.
