(Feeler) The List...What are you Keeping?

I've always been under the impression you couldn't keep more than a pair in a tank. I thought they would fight untill the dominant emerge and the weakest die.

I would love to have more clowns.

Whats your take?

Unfortunately multiple pairs in a tank even as large as mine come with significant risks. It is important to note that all of my clowns are still Juveniles, so at this point fighting is more king of a particular anemone that an all out assault. The true test comes when they start to reach sexual maturity.
Having said that, I have met two advanced aquarists that have successfully housed 16 and 24 clowns for more than 4 years in half the tank size as mine. My theory is, after a certain number (unsure exactly what that is) mass confusion helps to curtail female aggression and transformation. At this point only one is showing female characteristics in my tank. Unfortunately it happens to be one of the Spots, so that may cause problems.... Will see.

I kept Discus for many years and will likely start a new tank with them in the future. Had a couple of show-quality Red-Turquoise that were absolutely stunning. Ah, just talking about it makes we want Discus again. My absolute favorite. I'll gladly take Discus questions if anyone is considering going that route.

But, any Discus setup will have to wait until I finish my 180 gallon reef that I've been slowly preparing to setup over the last several months. Great idea to start a thread like this.

75 gallon saltwater: yellow tang, hippo tang, melanurus wrasse, percula clown, coral beauty angel, green chromises, serpent stars, condy anemones, GSPs, assorted inverts

50 gallon cichlid tank with breeding colony of lemon yellows and electric blues.

Edit: Coral Hog....you must be loaded dude. That's some serious $$ cha-ching on display. 1200 gallons is bigger than the koi pond in front of my house.

Just out of curiosity, how is that rock lobster not terrified for its life? The grouper and the triggers leave it alone?

55 gallon fowlr, blue hippo tang, naso tang, Singapore angel, flame angel, maroon clown, Picasso trigger, mandarin goby, and a snowflake eel

Most of the fish are on the small side but the naso and I have a nice 150 long tank I'm in the process of putting together piece by piece so when the fish get big i will be able to keep them in fact I'm building the stand tomorrow. As far as the fish go they all get along no issues but I know as they grow that will change so that's why I'm building the 150 and I can't wait to get it going!
