I am having trouble with film on my surface, its a standard AGA 75 gallon with an overflow offset slightly to the left. The film is built up mostly on the right side with some on the left. I have two MP40's for flow.
I originally thought that if i aimed my return down it wouldnt be pushing water to the sides but this has not helped.
Any suggestions?

i'd really rather not... kinda kills the point of the vortechs :-/
I did have it setup that way but.. im hoping for something less obtrousive

If not that some sort of surface skimming device or something that will agitate the surface

I just point one of the returns strait up so that it disturbs the water's surface... this gets rid of the majority of the film.

I am not sure what causes this, but I feel like it started when I began using Sea Chem Salinity as my salt mix. It may just be a coincidence though.

you could increase the size of your return pump. More water cycling thru the tank and sump would increase the flow thru the surface skimmer, and thus reduce surface funk

I have my return above the water line, breaking the surface of the water as it brings sump water back up. Seems to work well for me.

I have something similar as well. One of my returns is pointed at the mount for a Koralia. It causes the return flow to 'bounce up' a little bit which ripples the surface of the water. That plus the general tank circulation gives me plenty of surface movement. I've never had any film. This is in a 175 bowfront, btw.
