So about a week ago I noticed that my tank was looking pretty weird and I just figured I needed to clean my filter out but when I started to do so i noticed a lot of black stuff everywhere, which was the calcium. Turns out that I put the filter on wrong about two months ago and the repealer was melting and made a hole inside of it. Now I need a new filter!! I guess we do learn form mistakes but does anyone have any suggestions on a good filter for a 100g? Any advice would be awesome

Is this a canister filter or hang on back filter? Need some more info to help you out. Do you have a sump or skimmer?

It's a canister filter & I don't have a sump or skimmer. Working on both of those! I can post pictures if that would help also

Black stuff - carbon? (Calcium is usually white...)

Pictures would help, usually the impeller (if that is what you were referring to), can only go in one way.

Canisters aren't the best for saltwater tanks. Sump with skimmer is best, but if that's a no-go for you, I'd put at least a couple of bigger hang-on filters or if it's a 6' tank, a hang-on skimmer (such as a Reef Octopus dual hang-on) and 2 power filters like Emperor 400s. Make sure you have powerheads for more flow too.

yes carbon. I have a magnum 350 bio-pro. I think i'm going to just reorder some parts. I'm going to look into a skimmer, I don't know much about them.
