Filter sock questions

I got the idea from another member on here. We use Tide Free detergent here but if you don't I would still recommend Free for your socks. You don't want residual fragrances or fabric softeners.

I have tried just bleach but the detergent helps carry the filth away. Spin cycle dries enough, no need for the drier.

Can't over stress stress the need for the second rinse cycle.

Also intrigued about the mesh filters versus felt. They seem like a lot less maintenance. I had already bought mine and haven't been intrigued enough to replace them yet.

All great info and I appreciate it. I'm going with 4" socks. I've not fully decided on which ones yet but probably a mixture as there will be 2 entering the refugium and 2 entering the main sump. I looked at filterbag.com and the issue with them is that every sock I looked at required a minimum purchase of 25 socks. Obviously I can't use that many. Anybody else need 4" socks?

25 is not an overkill number in my book, especially if you are running 4 at a time. Washing them all the time just to have 4 in service will get old real fast. I have 20 or so 4" socks and I only run 1 and swap it about every 2-3 days.

(4) 6" 200 Micron
(2) 6" 100 Micron
(2) 4" 200 Micron

The order can be any size as long as the total is 25 or more.

Oh ok. I didn't read that far in to it. It was just defaulting to 25 min on any sock that I pulled up. Are you looking for felt or mesh? Plastic ring I presume.

Jeff, I needed 4 socks and ordered a box of 25 from Filterbags.com knowing I could sell them off. I sold off the remaining 21 in under an hour.

The easiest way is to buy the case and sell off what you don't use. Or you could do an unofficial group buy. there are ALWAYS people who want these.
