Filter socks.

Going to give it awhile. My orp levels have not dropped. I have so much flow on my sump that it can't get dirty.

Where do you think the particulate matter that used to get trapped by the socks is going?

Do your socks fill up with so much gunk they need to be changed every couple days?
I took my mechanical filters offline for a few weeks,but I put them back on. Afraid of all the build up.

Same place it is while trapped in the socks hanging in the sump and not being cleaned , in the system just isolated. I'm with Raj on this one. I never understood why people will let their filter socks get so dirty that they overflow into the next one. It can only complete it'sjob if you remove the sock and clean it. Sitting in the sump with your water running over the clogged sock accomplishes nothing at that point. Well maybe it does prevent your skimmer from removing some of it from the water column.

One of the best looking tanks I've seen in person doesn't have filter socks.

I will give it two months or so and see what happens.

+1 I got tired of constantly cleaning the socks and decided to go without them for a couple of months. The build up that occurred in the sump was staggering!

Filter socks are a pain, but I will use them in the future.
