what is the best way to clean your filter socks with out introducing any unwanted compounds back into the aquarium or sump?

I throw them in the washing machine with no detergent on extra rinse and prewash then soak in RO water.

Some people soak in bleach then wash but I wouldn't do it. I was reading yesterday that soaking them in a half cup of hydrogen peroxide works great then spraying them with the hose then soak in ro/di

I simply turn them inside out, take them to my utility sink and spray them with the sprayer to remove all the loose stuff. Anything left behind, I use a scrub brush on. Then I rinse in RO/DI water, air dry. Never had a problem. About every 4-5 months, I'll throw them in the washing machine with the rest of my whites, use non-detergent soap and bleach. (however, I do think that hydrogen peroxide might be a better option)

Throw mine in the wash with just bleach. Air dry at least a day and good to go.

Never tried the Hydrogen Peroxide way. I pull them inside out to rinse out any food that may have been caught. Then i rinse them in the sink, and ring them out. Toss them in the washer with a cap full of bleach. I turn on extra rinse, retrieve them from the washer to rinse them one more time in the sink. Ring, then let air dry.
Works good for me.
May have to try the Hydrogen Peroxide.

+1, but I also add a cup of white vinegar and add an extra rinse... good to go.
