First Sign of Hair Algae

Yep, New tank says a lot. Your N03 is probably reading ultra low because your HA is eating it up. The sea hare will eat it up, make sure you pull him out when he's done, I've heard horror stories of how they can nuke a tank.

Edit:
change your gfo more often and think about setting up a nitrate removal plan like vodka, & the like....

You might find that Purigen by Seachem will be easier then vodka dosing.

i had a ton of hair algae in my tank. within a week it was gone. the only thing i changed was dropping in a bag of Purigen my HOB. there is a small patch of it on one rock though, which i dont mind.

If you get the big mexican turbo snails, they prefer colder tank temps (in the high 70's vs low 80's) so try and keep your tank temps down (mine run at approx 76-77). As far as the red slime, try and make sure you've got good flow throughout the tank and keep you ph and alk in the correct range. I don't recommend the chemical route unless things get real bad.
Forgive my ignorance, but do you just drop it into a mesh bag and toss it into the sump?

That I can do! Thank you!
