Fish Death issues

i had a 90 and a 55 up for years broke em both down to move and still have the tank and lights etc.... I was basically waiting to set up cause I was thinking of going bigger and just wanted to make up my mind before I did anything
 
hm.......so if I am stuck at work should I just hope??

I mean it could have just been hiding really well right?
 
i dunno bro, maby hes hiding but usually when things come up missing in my tank its bc theyre dead
 
See no sarcasm glad i got a second to that!Yeah boxfish are literally poison living when they corak your tank specially one that size will normally toast out. Did you tell them what size tank you were putting the box fish in?shame on them if you did.

I'm not sure I would assume the clowns are the problem unless you see them actually harass or kill one of the fish. I'd be thinking maybe you have one of the hitchhiking crabs. I had similar issues in my 120G, fish go missing overnight or fish with parts of their fins or tail missing, until one night checking once again with a flashlight I saw a quick movement in a hole in my huge rock of encrustng pavona. I got it out and found a large crab that had probably been living in there for two years without me ever seeing it. I haven't lost a fish since then.
 
I have a pair of clowns in my 37 cube and the female is very, very aggressive to everything. Thats why there are those clowns and 2 chromis in there. The only reason the clowns tolerate the chromis is they were introduced at the same time. She is so aggresive that i cant stick my hand in the tank to do anything without her nipping/biting me constantly. Ithink the fin nipping is coming after death from your CUC.
 
So, assuming the fish did die it wouldve died over night and when I checked this morning everything seemed to be ok zoas etc. all open and lookin good, cleaner shrimp looking fine, is there any possibility the fish did die and did not put off the poison and since i have been at work all day I have some hope that i wont get home to a freakin disaster??
 
Dont panic or anything we all got our fingers crossed that everything is A okay !Just wait and see most likely all is good when you get home find him for sure either way of his condition!Keep us posted

Update:

Got home everything looked fine, took out all the rock and coral....You can imagine how happy I am about that, finally found the boxfish dead under a rock, i didnt know they had hard shell like bodies....anyway pulled him out re-did all the rock work re arranged all the coral and immediatly the clowns are eating like nothign happened the cleaner shrimp is out like nothing happened all of the coral polyps came right back out I am going to get the water tested but it looks like the fish died without releasing the toxin,

So now I am back to the original question as to what is actually killing these fish? Again the clowns are perfectly fine?? I have been in this hobby for a while and have never had this many fish die on me without knowing the cause
 
the clowns are stressing them out very simple!your lucky no more box fish buddy lol!Id keep it to your clowns until you upgrade and might as well keep both!

Back to the original answer: stress.


None of the fish you listed as having died belong in a 12g tank, plain and simple.
 
Do you think I could get away with a clown goby and something like a firefish or royal gamma or bi color blenny something like that?
 
You could get away with a clown goby, but they eat SPS and perch on corals, possibly causing irritation. I had one that would sit on a pagoda cup and the thing never opened up nicely til the clown died (starved, likely, newb mistake).

The other fish, yes I think you could get by with one of those in a 12. Blennies perch, too, so keep that in mind. A Royal Gramma would likely have the temperament to match the clowns and could probably hold his own.
 
The two clowns sound established and aggressive. Very common. They will prob try to kill anything smaller that u put in. Just hold off. Don't buy anything else. The box fish isn't outta the pic yet. It could take up to 3 days for the effects to become apparent. Good luck.
 
Oh and you def need to put some carbon in your system to start extracting the toxins. If you already have carbon then replace it with new asap and after a week throw it away.
