Was going to wait until I had more progress to show this but I'm so excited to finally get to start on the project I figured I would share.

Its roughly 12x10 foot area today we are clearing it out and getting ready to work on mudding and kilz on the walls wanted to paint today but local paint supply didn't have the color I wanted which is a few shades lighter than a crayola blue. This will be where I setup my breeding system.

After paint the tile will be going in then comes the fun part of installing a floor drain.

Awesome!! I have an unfinished basement that I plan to turn into a fish room as well......well it kind of already is my fish room but I plan to finish it and make it look pleasing to the eye. lol.

Are you planning to have it just store all your fish stuff or is that where the tank is going?

Thanks for the positive responses with a lil hope and faith it will be a breeding room for clownfish mainly but if there is room to house all the equipment that will be great too.

The tanks setup I will be using allows me to house about 6 pairs which will be plenty for me.

I only have 2 pairs and a single black and white right now but hope to obtain a couple more breeder pairs soon .

I've been wanting to do it for years and have been collecting a lot of equipment along the way

I'm not getting too optimistic with only 120 sqft to work with ?

I'm going to see what I can sketch out with the equipment I have on hand and get a rough idea of how much space each area is going to take up and what I can or can't do but I plan on just keeping it as simple as possible for now.

I will have a sink, with a rodi and top off station salt mixing and a area for food prep and hospital tank

Also a rotifer / brine station, phyto

I Will have a small area for fry and maybe 2 grow out tanks

The better half has made a deal with me that If I have enough success later and just have to have more room than I can have the room right next to it as well that is currently her "kraft" area (of course that goes with her getting a new kraft room lol.)

Jamescook was nice enough to give me a detailed tour of his setup last time I was out his way and gave me some good ideas mine will just be micro version lol.

I got the mud on the walls drying as we speak have to pick up some hole patch kits and paint samples tomorrow will try to update once we get some color on the walls

How fun!

Sounds like you've done your home work. Will be checking in on you, I wish you success.
Enjoy it!

Way to go man. Glad the new house is working out for you, I remember you posting a few questions about some electrical stuff awhile back.
Let me know how you do the floor drain , every time I've seen one, turns into a pain in the neck sloping the floor to the drain.

Good move setting up the fish stuff first, usually the kraft room comes first then that gets turned into the nursery!

No nursery for me a few plans are up in the air ATM and nothing is final on the drain yet. Im also playing around with another idea of wall mounting my water tanks up high to save space. My main goal is to utilize the space of the room as much as possible without making it cluttered if that makes sense

I like the idea of using the vertical space. Hanging aqauriums on the wall sounds challenging, but I am sure it is do-able.

There is currently a 3 level (one section) retail type unit on CL. I think it even includes a utility sink. All for 200.

The aquariums won't be hung just too much weight on one wall for that but I think the fresh water tanks will be ok. On one of the support walls but to be on the safe side I'm going to see what kind data I can find on approx hanging weight a wall can hold last thing I need is a wall to come crashing down

Did manage to get the paint color I had in my mind mixed today so far total investment is about 70.00 on materials with patch kits, kills and rollers

Thank you the color is awesome not much I can do at this point I probably won't have the materials to do the floor for a few weeks.

Here are some ideas I created in sketch up for my breeding rack that will be be able to hold about 6 pairs in 3 tanks that are divided in middle by black acrylic are not exact but pretty close to what I have minus the euro bracing not shown in pic and a 40g breeder for the sump.

Tanks roughly hold about 30g each so total volume of system is around 130g what do you guys think ?

How are your return lines going to be configured? If you only do one on the right, I would be concerned about flow on the left.

I'm thinking the same thing but was wondering if I added a feed line for each section of the tank that maybe it would be OK

I also had another thought that if I ran the return to the bottom of the tank on right I could still get equal flow across the whole setup. The pic doesn't show it but the dividers have gaps in the bottom and the top.

the tanks wont weigh a crazy amount, but in your drawing, the only thing holding them up will be a few screws? You might want to re-think it to have the weight be transfered to the floor down another 2x4 "under" each corner of the tanks...?

I see what you mean I may make the rack the same size top to bottom so I can add more reinforcement
